Adsense -Brand Advertiser Beta Test
Google is always looking for different ways to bring new advertisers to Google. So what's new, or should I say, what's being launched?
Enticing The Brand Advertiser
Their new advertising push is toward brand advertisers. Brand advertisers are different then direct response advertisers, thus, they need a different approach.
Before I get any further, let me define the difference between a brand advertiser and a direct response advertiser.
Direct response advertiser
The direct response advertiser typically look for clicks and conversions from the campaigns they run on your site. Let's look at an example:
A direct response advertiser is selling a cellphone. Their sole purpose is for the user to click through and make a purchase or that cellphone seen in the picture, or another cellphone on their site.
Brand Advertiser
The brand advertiser is focused more on raising brand awareness, typically displaying ads for a product or service that the person may buy in the future. Example of a brand advertiser promotion example:
The person sees the advertisement of an add stating that a new cellphone by the specific company is coming out at a future date. Their purpose is to generate awareness among users.
Now that you are aware of brand awareness, can brand awareness ads be coming to your website or blog?
Good question? Maybe, maybe not. Brand advertisers tend to be more selective about the sites they run their ads on, as well as, where on the page their ads appear. So what is Adsense solution for Brand Advertisers?
New Adsense Beta Advertiser Feature
The new beta advertiser feature directed toward brand advertisers are:
1. New feature will allow brand advertisers to target their ads to ad units that are immediately visible when the page is loading. (Above the fold ads)
If your ads are above the fold you may say, okay, I may see some of these ads on my site. Not so fast. Adsense is testing a model that is "statistically-driven. The model will take into account various user experiences and situations (which includes different web browsers, monitor sizes, and screen resolutions).
If Google determines that the ads is above the fold, and fully on-screen when the browser window loads, you may see brand advertiser ads.
Adsense is hoping this will bring in more revenue to them, of course, and to publishers over time.

Blogging for profit might get you in trouble!
Does writing a blog constitute work? That appears to be the position of the New York State Department of Labor, which recently declared a laid-off attorney ineligible for unemployment benefits because she was bringing in $1.30 a day from blog ads.
Earlier this year Karin--a 2008 graduate from the University of Virginia School of Law who asked that her last name not be published--was laid off by a New York City law firm six months into her job.
Karin applied for state unemployment benefits and began receiving $405 a week. Unable to afford her rent in New York , she moved to St. Louis , Mo. , and began searching for paralegal jobs while preparing to take the Missouri bar exam (it is common, and legal, for the unemployed to receive jobless benefits from the state where they last worked, even after moving elsewhere.)
In April, Karin started a blog, called STL Meal Deals, where she wrote about local restaurant promotions. Since she received no payments from the businesses she mentioned, Karin decided to try generating some income by signing up for Google AdSense, a service run by the Web search giant that pays bloggers to host ads on their sites. Google sends bloggers checks when their earnings hit $100--a level that took Karin three months to achieve.
When the check came in, Karin realized she had a legal obligation to disclose the income to New York State , even though doing so might reduce the weekly unemployment benefits she received. According to state regulations, anyone receiving unemployment benefits, who works one day and earns less than $405, will have his check for the week reduced by 25%. Someone who earns more than $405 in a single week becomes ineligible for any payments for that week.
It was after Karin notified the Department of Labor of her AdSense income that the confusion started. New York cut her weekly benefits to $300 and sent her a form to fill out and send to her employer. Unsure whether Google was considered her employer, Karin called the DOL to get an answer. She says a state official told her she shouldn't have claimed the AdSense payment as income because it was "residual," meaning a payment made for services previously rendered. New York does not regard residual income as employment pay that could make someone ineligible for unemployment benefits.
The call prompted Karin to file another claim with the state and to attach a letter stating she was running a blog and that the Google AdSense revenue it generated was her only source of income. A few days later, she received a letter from the DOL informing her that it had launched an investigation of her "business" to determine whether she remained eligible for benefits.
Karin called the DOL again and says this time she was told that the state considered her self-employed, which would require her to claim earnings each time she received an AdSense check. She called back to get another opinion, and Karin says this time she was informed by yet another state official that she needed to declare that she was working every time that she updated her blog.
Meanwhile, New York State has informed Karin that she is ineligible for unemployment benefits while its investigation is ongoing.
Several phone calls by Forbes to the Department of Labor failed to yield a clear response as to whetherNew York State regards Google AdSense payments as residual or self-employment income. Such payments are "uncharted territory" and questions of eligibility are "very case specific," according to a DOL spokesman.
Several phone calls by Forbes to the Department of Labor failed to yield a clear response as to whether
Karin, meanwhile, has pulled AdSense from her Web site. "It's frustrating that nobody seems to have a straightforward answer," she says. "It's even more frustrating that trying to work and generate additional income, while being straightforward and honest about that income, is treated with suspicion and punished."
Her total AdSense income: $238.75!
Google, for its part, seems to want to stay out of it. In a statement, the company said, “Google AdSense revenue supports many publishers and bloggers with a revenue stream from online advertising. We're not able to comment on how various states choose to classify this revenue for purposes of unemployment benefit eligibility."
The company does send 1099 statements to anyone who earns $600 or more in AdSense income within a calendar year. The recipient, in turn, is supposed to declare this as miscellaneous income when filing his federal tax returns. Google does not report to the IRS, or issue 1099s, for AdSense income of less than $600 per person.
So is blogging work only if you make a certain amount of money? New York , at least, doesn’t see it that way. “You are considered employed on any day when you perform any services - even an hour or less - regardless of whether you get paid for that day,” said a spokesman from the Department of Labor.

Adsense-Font and Font Size Changes Available
Adsense Changes-Different Font and Font Sizes Now Available
Here's a quick note to a new change that Adsense is now allowing publishers to use.
If you have been wanting to have different font and font sizes for your blog or website, you're in luck. Adsense, after their own initial experimenting, has found that changes in font and font sizes does affect revenue. Thus, you are now allowed to change font and font sizes for your ads within your website or blog.
What's available?
For font sizes you'll be able to choose between: Small, Medium and Large, with font styles of Arial, Times, Verdana.
You will notice that the current default setting for your Google ads are typically set to small, but from a little experimenting they found that medium did perform better than the small. Thus, medium will soon become the new default.
If you are wanting to play around with your ads, you'll need to keep the following information handy:
When creating new ad units you can now choose:
1. the default font size
2. your new account-wide font size
3. Or a separate size
Updating existing ad units
To change existing ad units you will need to visit the "Manage Ads" page under the Adsense Setup tab.
Note: any font size change that you make to an individual ad unit will remain in place EVEN if you change your account-wide default in the future.

Google Enhancements and Additions
Google Enhancements and Additions
Google is adding new things to their inventory of services. What is it? It looks like Google is moving into social networking and is now offering "Google Friend Connect".
They state that with Friend Connect, your visitors can join your site using credentials they've created with Google, Yahoo, AOL and others and link in the people they know on services like Google Talk, Plaxo, Twitter, and more.
They will offer "gadgets" with features like commenting, ratings and reviews and the social bar to add to your site. How is this added to your site? Just like Adsense, you just need to add a snippet of code to add the feature to your site. To learn more about Google Friend Connect or to get started click here.
Another Adsense Enhancement
Google Adsense is making another enhancement-this time, its with their link units. After you click a link unit topic, an image ad has been added to the bottom of each of these pages. In there testing, it showed revenue improvements for many publishers.
The image ads are contextually targeted, so what you see as the topic of the links you see the same topic with the image ad. What happens if there is no image ads available for the given topic? If no image ad is available you will see text ads instead. Some may be cringing with the thought that if there is no image ad or text ads for the topic they will show the ugly public service ads or a nice big blank space. Adsense says this will never happen.
How does it work for advertisers-they can bid on the image ads on a Cost-Per-Click or a Cost-Per-Impression basis. As you can see, publishers will be able to generate earnings for valid click and impressions. But one item to keep an eye on, in my opinion, between cost-per-impression vs cost-per-click revenue. Will it help you make more or less?
If you're going to try link ads, you may want to generate a link unit report on your Advanced Reports page to see if it is helping your site to generate more revenue with the added image ad.

Category Filtering Beta Testing By Adsense
Category Filtering Beta Testing By Adsense
Adsense is developing a much requested feature for publishers-category filtering.
What is category filtering? Category filtering will give the publisher a little more control over the type of ads that they can block from their website. You'll have specific categories to choose from, such as:
Dating
Drugs and Supplements
Get Rich Quick
Sexually Suggestive
Weight Loss
Politics
etc...
You can choose up to 5 different categories in which to exclude.
One nice feature is the percentage of recent revenue that the ads in each category is generating-this will give the publishers a better tool to predicting how the filtering selections will impact their revenue.
This may be a viable way for publishers to rid their website of irrelevant ads on their website or blog. However, this feature is now in only in beta testing. Which means that only a small select group of publishers are able to utilize the tool currently. Thus, we are going to have to take a wait and see as to when and if it is going to be offered to the whole Adsense community.

Everything Adsense
Everything Adsense
What's new at Adsense? What changes are taking place?
Video Units are Retiring-Somewhat
It looks like the Video units have not been the success that Adsense thought they would be. With that being said, Adsense will quietly retire the Video units at the end of April.
If you still want to display video ads you'll still be able to do so, by going to YouTube directly.
But most importantly, this video unit retirement will not affect the availability of other video ad units that appear through the image/text or image option of your ads. So yes, Adsense for video is still accepting applications from eligible publishers who produce video content.
New Email Notifications
Adsense will be rolling out new email notification preferences in your account over the next few days.
What does that mean? You'll have the option to receive specific messages like event invitations, information about webinars, and personalized account suggestions from members of the Google Adsense team.
In a couple of days you see a one-time page when you sign-in to Google Adsense. You will be asked to select the type of email messages you would like to receive from them. What if you change your mind? No problem.
If you change your mind about the selections you chose, you can simply sign in to your Account, visit the Contact Preferences section within your Account Settings to update the type of emails you want to receive.

Big Adsense - A Review From an Average Joe
Finding good, effective strategies for using Adsense is becoming increasingly difficult, how do you choose whats going to work? If you can get Adsense right it is one of, if not the most successfully high paying marketing methods on the net at the moment. That being said, the amount of garbage on how to make it work is also very high.
The problem is, as I mentioned, you need to do it right, and it is just so hard to find an information product that delivers the goods when it comes to the effective secrets of using adsense.
I found out from a lot of ill spent dollars that most of the information out there for sale via ebooks, programs, etc, is just reused and repackaged, but nothing new, and certainly nothing that will give you an edge over the competition.
So I decided that I must either quit entirely or find a better way, I am proud to say that quitting is not in my nature and so began a search for the info that was actually going to deliver the goods and make some profit. I decided that I would try any program that looked good and researched well, i.e., had good review feedback on Google, yahoo etc. And after a couple of weeks of trying a few different products that I really thought where decent and had decent enough feedback I found what I was after, which led me to writing this review about Adsense Big.
After evaluating my position I decided that I would give it one more try, I purchased some final products that I felt looked good and had received good reviews from people on the big search engines, I always check out the reviews of a product before I buy it, its common sense. One of the products, in fact the first one that I tested out was what I was looking for. That leads me to the topic of this article, Adsense Big.
The thing that first really got me excited about this program was that it really did describe things in very good detail. I mean a lot of programs claim to do this, but often leave out crucial bits of information on the basis of assuming that you will know how to do something. Not with Adsense Big.
I have been very lucky in finding Adsense Big when I did because, I was on the verge of throwing in the towel. After beginning to implement the strategies in the program I can safely say that this is the information that I was searching so long and hard for, it just doesn't leave anything out.
The great thing was, that I was now starting to understand these concepts and see how I could put them to use. And if you read Adsense Big you will absolutely understand what I am talking about and just why so many people are struggling. In fact you can get an idea of what I am talking about without even buying the thing, just look at the screen shots on the pitch page.
I can barely contain my excitement at the moment regarding what luck I have had in finding Adsense Big. I now know that it is exactly what I was searching for to get my Adsense working the way it is supposed to. It really is a must try to believe scenario. If those of you are reading this have been struggling with your Adsense campaigns, then I can only say that you are definitely faced with the opportunity of getting out of that rut, by reading this and finding out about Adsense Big. Ignore the cheesy, frightful marketing of the product itself and you will see that you have found absolute Adsense gold.

Increase Your Google Adsense Revenue?
Recently there has been a lot of discussion about people who earn over $10,000 a month just from Adsense. Furthermore, there are rumors of a few individuals who earn over $1 million a year just from using the power of Google advertisements.
So what is Google Adsense and how can you use this program to earn a six-figure income?
About two years ago, Google created this program to help websites to monetize their web-traffic.
Here’s how it works:
Webmasters obtain a special code from Google which then displays targeted ads on their website. Whenever a visitor clicks on one of these ads, the webmaster earns a commission. Unlike other online businesses, there is no selling involved. All you need to do is get people to click on the ads.
Although this is an excellent way to generate an income, many websites are not effectively maximizing their Adsense potential. As a result, they are leaving a lot of cash on the table.
The question is how can you increase your Adsense revenue without increasing the number of web visitors? The key to earning an income with Google Adsense is to have your ads match the rest of the site, making them look like part of your content. Your focus is to avoid having the Adsense blocks look like blatant advertisements.
The following are six ways that you can do this and increase your revenue at the same time:
1) Find the right place- Most website visitors read content that is in the middle of a webpage. As a result, the best place to put your Adsense block is in the top part of the page, at the beginning of your web content. You want to weave the Google Ads into your web content to give the appearance that they are extra links which expand on the information of the page.
2) Use the Large Rectangle–With Google Adsense, you have the option of picking different ad formats. Most of the time people opt to use the Leader board (728x90) or Wide Skyscraper (160x600) style ads. Unfortunately, this is the wrong choice, because both look like blatant advertisements. Instead smart webmasters have found that using the Large Rectangle (336x280) yields the best amount of click-thrust.
3) Ditch the border– Many people experience a sharp increase in Adsense revenue when they changing their border. What they change is very simple…they get rid of the border on their Adsense blocks. This is another way to make the advertisements look like useful web content.
4) Adapt the font- Whenever you write content, for more details visit to www.instant-adsense-dollars.com it should be the same font size and style as your Google Adsense block. This will help make it appear that the advertisements are a natural part of your website.
5) Match the colors– In addition to changing the fonts, you also should match the colors of your website. For instance, if your content is written in black, and your hyperlinks are blue, then the Adsense blocks should also be the same color. Again, this helps the advertisements appear to be normal web content.
6) Don’t have too many distractions- On a webpage, it is important to give web visitor a limited number of options. By having too many links and graphics, for more details visit to www.google-atm-machine.com the web visitor might go to a section that doesn’t help increase your profits. While it is important to inform and entertain your web visitor, it is also vital that you monetize your site. So if the main focus of your site is to earn an income through Google Adsense, then get rid of all non-essential links and graphics.
By taking the time to implement these six simple steps, you’ll see a dramatic increase in the click-thru ratio of your ads. If added to all of the content of your site, your Adsense income will skyrocket!

Google Adsense vs Adwords Info For Noobs
What is the difference between Google AdSense and Google AdWords? Are they the same? How confusing!
Well, not really. It's not that complicated. They are related but they are two different angles of the same thing: advertising through Google. In this article, we will focus on AdWords, but let's first begin by differentiating AdWords from AdSense.
Google AdSense is the option for when you run a website of your own and would like to earn money from the traffic (visitors) of your site. You opt in to have Google's AdSense place ads on your site that are relevant to your visitors and you, in turn, earn money.
Google AdWords is the other angle of the same concept. This time, you are simply an advertiser (as opposed to being the owner/administrator of the site where the ads are placed). You have a product, service, website or otherwise that you want to advertise. And you'd like it if Google would place your ad on sites whose visitors will find your advertisement relevant.
You see, Google cares about you getting results from your advertising. That's why AdWords is better than other forms of online advertising. Google won't just place your ads arbitrarily on the net. They will focus and put your ads in specific handpicked locations, again, on sites where the visitors will find your ads to be relevant to them. These visitors are more likely to be in the market for your product, service, or website. Therefore, you are more likely to see a direct point of sale from this very targeted advertising.
This article was, in fact, not written by anyone working for Google and is simply informative. It is just to help you understand what AdWords is and what it can do for you and your business. Whether you choose to use Google AdWords to increase your bottom line is entirely up to you! Happy advertising and marketing! And may your business flourish, whether through Google advertising or otherwise!

New Changes For Adsense Users
Google Adsense is now letting you have more control over the appearance of your ads on your site. You can know change the font face on text in ad units on pages in Latin-character languages. Three options to choose from: Verdana, Times and Arial.
How and Where To Make The Changes
To change the ad unit quickly, you can go into your "My Account Settings" page and select the font preference. Note: when you make the change within "My Account Settings" this will affect all your ads on all your web pages. In other words, it's a universal change.
Can you create custom ads for specific web pages? Yes, Google is also allowing that as well. To set the font face for specific units on a web page you will need to make the change within the Manage Ads Page.
Note: If you change the font face of an ad unit from the "default" setting, that will be maintained even if you change the account-wide settings later.
As with anything, its wise to experiment.

Google PPC/Adwords Changes
- Google PPC/Adwords Changes
It looks like Google is making some changes to their Adwords Program, as well as, further explaining the two frequent programs Click Fraud (which affects advertisers) and Invalid Clicks which affects the Adsense user/Adwords user.
Adwords Changes to the Content Network
Google is rolling out some new features for Adwords for the content network. The features will benefit your earning potential and the effectiveness of the ads. Some of the features include:
1. Frequency capping-prevents users from seeing the same ads on your pages
2. Advertisers will see which site is performing best for their ads
3. Improved ad quality. They are going to implement a DoubleClick ad serving cookie on the content network. Their hope is to improve the experience of the users and to protect privacy but increase value for publishers and advertisers.
But there are also several other important questions that need to be answered. And that is what is the difference between an invalid click(which gives you no money) and click fraud (invalid click with consequences).
Invalid clicks Explained
Invalid click-are clicks that will not be charged against the Advertiser and thus, not be credited to the Publisher. These include extraneous clicks without value-such as second click of a double-click.
However, Click fraud is a completely different creature, that is intentional. So what is click fraud?
Click fraud Explained
Click fraud is the use of invalid clicks that is used with the intended purpose of driving up advertiser cost or publisher revenue artificially. Where do these invalid clicks come from:
1. publisher clicking on his own ads, or encouraging others to click on the ads
2. Users or family members clicking to support site/publisher
3. Third party programs with user incentives-such as paid-to-surf or auto-surf programs
4. Automated clicking tools, robots, deceptive software.
5. Third-party programs for purchasing fixed amounts of traffic, $10 for 1000 page views.
Obviously, any of these methods to artificially generate clicks, impressions, or conversions is prohibited by Google's program policy.

SEO and Adsense-the Common Factor
SEO and Adsense-the Common Factor
By Vickie J. Scanlon
There are some things that SEO and Adsense has in common. Surprised?
SEO Defined
SEO (search engine optimization) is the utilization of keywords within the Meta tags and within the body of your content to help the search engines to identify what your web page/website is
about.
If you and the search engines' algorithms are on the same page you will be rewarded with a good page ranking, so your target market will flock to you in groves. But this is the kicker, SEO is not an exact science, but one of trial and error. So be patient.
Adsense
Adsense is Google advertising. Once you sign up for Google Adsense, you can place pieces of java script code onto your site. In turn, Google Adsense will come by and place, hopefully, relevant
ads on your web page.
Once you have experimented with the color, size and positioning of your ads on the page, you are ready for the Google spider to roll through your site and put relevant ads on your site to give you a side income. Now that we know a little about SEO and Adsense, what do they have in common?
Adsense and SEO Common Factor
So what is Adsense and SEO's common factor. The spider:
1.cannot read images-you need to enlist the use of a title and the alt tag to identify the image for the search engines.
2.has trouble with Flash and dyanamic content (urls that have ? within it <>. Spiders get skiddish and will back out if it is too complex. And let me emphasis it needs to be simple.
To conclude, SEO is the hub for you to work on. Though quality content is important, it is the SEO work you have done that will help to get the quality ads from Adsense and people to your site.

AdSense Referrals-More Information
AdSense Referrals-More Information
Since Google last update on the retiring of Adsense referral ads were a little incomplete-they have followed up with another update to answer the question most important to all-will I get paid.
Some questions were answered regarding the referral programs.
All referrals will be retired. This applies to referrals for Adwords advertisers, as well as, for Google products.
What's the deadline for creating referrals?
If a sale was created with the referral, the action has to have been completed by the end of September. However, your referral units on your site will no longer display after August 2008. (Translated, you will have a 30 day window to receive credit for any referral conversions).
One final note: Adsense content and Adsense research will remain unchanged.

Adsense Ad Review Center-Active
Adsense Ad Review Center-What's In It For Me
The Ad Review Center is now active for all publishers. But what does the Ad Review Center offer you as a publisher?
You will now be able to review all ads placement-targeted to your site. It will give you more control and ensure that the ads that are going to be placed on your site is relevant to your site's content and users.
The Ad Review Center is found under the link of"Competitive Ad Filter", located under the "AdeSense Setup" tab.
They advise that you keep the review preference set to default "Run Ads immediately", thus, allowing you to block or run ads immediately.
If you should choose "Hold ads" you will have put those ads on hold for a 24 hour period. Results for you as a publisher- potentially lowering winning bids and your AdSense earnings.
Be aware of the consequences of "Hold Ads", because these blocked ads cannot compete in the auction.

What's New With Adsense?
What's New With Adsense
Over the last several months Adsense has been testing their text ad format to include the "next" and "previous" arrow buttons for their cost-per-click ads. If you haven't seen it or paid any attention take a look. You will see and < > , usually, but not always, in the lower left hand corner of the ad. It's purpose is to give your viewers additional ads that may be more relevant to what they are seeking.
No, you won't generate any additional earnings when someone clicks on the "next" or "previous" button. But they are hoping that these buttons will have improve value for the advertiser and your revenue by giving your viewer more choices.
Note some Google Suggestions on Ad Differentiating and Placement.
Nothing stays the same on the Internet. And that, I am afraid is true with Google. New suggestions are being made by Google as to ad differentiation and placement of your ads around titles.
Google Ad Differentiating
It looks like Google is wanting you to differentiate your ads by color. No more blending your ads with your copy. At least that is how I am reading it.
Titles and Google Ads
If you have ads around your Title-and the title is more of an encouragement to your viewers to click the link below the title(because they believe it is a publisher placement link and not Google link), it's time to regroup and change your ad placements.

Wrapping Adsense in Blog Post
by Bonnie Calhoun
This is the third in the series of Adsense posts. The other two are HERE, and HERE.
Today I'm going to teach you how to wrap Adsense code into a blog post. The first example isn't exactly rocket science so even the most novice of bloggers will be able to accomplish this with ease.
First the glaring question: Why would I want to give myself the heart palpitations that come with messing with the stupid HTMl in my template to put in an equally stupid ad?
LOL...the answer to that: Ads placed within blog posts have been tested and proved to give the maximum in CTR (click thru rate). LOL...this means that you make a lot more money than with other locations on your page.
Let's first look at the use of the Adsense Widget.
From your Dashboard, click Layout. It will open on the Page Elements page. Click the Edit link in the Post Box. There is a clickable link in that open Configure box that you can click to put Ads between any number of posts. Read this Blogger Article about Placing Ads between posts.
From here on, it's going to get a little tougher, so the first thing I would recommend is Backing Up Your Template if you already don't have a copy of it saved in a NotePad file on your own computer. When you open the Layout tab, and click Edit HTML it will give you the Backup link...Please USE IT!!!

Okay...you're all backed up...now on to putting Adsense in your posts. Check the Expand Widget Templates box above the Edit window. Search for the following lines:
<data:post.body/>
or
<p><data:post.body/></p>
You will need to Parse Your Adsense Code like I taught you to do in THIS POST. This is how the post section code will look after you add the Parsed Adsense Code and the line to direct the ad to sit left, or right. In this code I have it set for left. To move it to the other side of the post, change the float position to right.
Click the SAVE TEMPLATE button, and you're done

This is how the post section code will look after you add the Parsed Adsense Code and the line to direct the ad to sit left, or right. In this code I have it set for left. To move it to the other side of the post, change the float position to right.
<div class="post-body entry-content">
<div style="float: left;">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX";
google_ad_width = 468;
google_ad_height = 60;
google_ad_format = "468x60_as";
google_ad_type = "text_image";
google_ad_channel = "";
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>
</div>
<p><data:post.body/></p>
