That is no longer acceptable coding and I'm at a loss as to whether you can get it to work without me spending hours to try to insert it.

Try inserting it as a style sheet...in other words to the template...but I'd create another blog to use as a tester, and use the same template for the blog and one or two dummy posts so you can see if they show up
