Wordpress Tips & Tricks

Wordpress Tips & Tricks

I thought it might be useful to list 7 of my best posts here so you don’t get lost while browsing my blog by jumping from a post to another.

Let’s start with the start:

  1. How to install wordpress - Here I wrote a whole guide on how to install wordpress. To be honest, I didn’t like the famous “5 minutes installation guide” on wordpress.org so I wrote my own. The tutorial posted on this page explains how you can create a new blog from scratch using cpanel, ftp, etc. Of course, there are other ways, some of them even easier (maybe) like Fantastico. But your hosting company has to upgrade their software right after the release, so you depend on many factors. Anyway, it’s one of the many solutions, test it and rate it.

  2. How To Display A Static Page On Your Home Page - by default, wordpress shows the latest 10 posts on your main page. This can be good or bad, depending on your preferences. The good news is that you can change this setting from the admin. To find out more about this, just click on the link in the title of this paragraph.

  3. Top recommended Wordpress Plugins - A small personal wordpress plugins collection. I think you must have them (or at least some of them) installed on your blog to make your life easier. The post includes: All in one SEO pack, google xml sitemaps, social bookmarks and few more. Check them out.

  4. How to recover your admin password (if the password recovery feature doesn’t work) - you may think this will never happen. But it does … it did happen few times for me so I thought it would be great to let others know how I did it before they quit trying and get a new fresh wordpress installation losing all their data.

  5. Top 10 WordPress anti spam plugins - Another collection of mine, this time to help me get rid of spammers. Yep, they attack blogs too (and attacked mine as well). The best seems to be akismet but there are few other options from which you can chose your destiny, so read the whole post before you make a decision (and maybe test them one by one).

  6. How to integrate Google Analytics with your blog - A common problem for bloggers is to have their google analytics code installed on their blog so they can track traffic. This post explains exactly what you need to do to have it working.

  7. The best permalinks structure - If you don’t know what permalinks are, then search this blog and you will find a post explaining that for sure. In the 7th post listed here I explained what’s the best way to have your URLs listed and why is that.

iPhone Tips and Tricks - Get the Most Out of Your iPhone Experience

We all know people who are lucky enough to already have an iPhone, how much fun it can only play around with. Playing with my iPhone a lot myself, I've discovered some cool tips and tricks that you might be interested.

1. When you tap once at the very top of the screen when you are on the Internet, you will return to the top of the window, rather than all the way back to the top. A nice time saving feature.

2. If you are writing, theto the smallest size, more you read on the Internet window. One advantage of this is that if you want to click a link, you can pinch (expand) that area and the connection will come up very big, that it is much easier to click.

3. Instead of posting the full address of internet sites via bookmarks, you can post the relevant RSS address instead into Apple's RSS reader and save that your bookmarks. This way you can quickly see whether it as something interesting on your favorite websiteDownload the entire site.

4. If you write something and the iPhone flags a word is misspelled, that you know is not wrong to cancel the correction 3 times and will be placed the word in the dictionary. When you write a lot, this feature is very useful!

5. The magnifying glass is a nice iPhone tool when you type an e-mail or other text. If you tap once and hold, a magnifying glass opens up a larger point in terms of your words and cursor. Now you can simply place the cursor wherever you want. This makes editing your writing very easy.

6. You can move icons, but not on the home screen. You have to go to the iPod section. Go to iPod> More> Edit. Now you can drag your icons all around. This can be done even in the phone section.

7. Reset on your iPhone, hold the right mouse button and the "home" front button for about 6 seconds. To power it back on, press the top button. This is when anotherregular shutdown, which can easily by using the sleep can be done / wake button for 6 seconds.

8. If you have a lot of spam e-mails or other unwanted e-mails, look for these time-saving feature. Add a link to Yahoo mail in Safari bookmarks. From there you can delete the "" to remove all the unwanted e-mails. This is much easier than deleting hundreds of spam e-mails one at a time.

If you are in a position to all types of music and movies download for your iPhone, check out myother articles of iPhone download sites.

Autocopy Add-on

AutocopyWhenever you prepare for a presentation or report, you Google it, copy from different sources and then paste it. It took a considerable amount of time to copy and paste the data if you have large number of sources. Also it would be a great help for bloggers .Select text on any web page and it will be automatically copied to the clipboard. It works in much the same way as does Trillian or mIrc. Paste on middle click into textboxes, the url bar, and the search bar.

Select some text. Right click on it and see the autocopy content area context menu item filled with usefull features. (old users of autocopy will want to turn this on. In the options page look for "Content Area Context Menu Item"). You can undo a copy; there is a clipboard history of up to 10 items; paste to the search or location box with a click of the button; search for and open in new tab for when you select a text only url. Plus a handy append url to clipboard feature that will make sure your quotes can always have a reference.

Here is the link to add it in firefox

Make Windows Translucent

You can make your program windows transparent in Windows 2000 or late versions, using a very lite freeware known as Glass2k. Transparent windows are helpful to me and gives a good geeky appearance to Windows Desktop.glass2k properties You can download glass2k from here, it does not need to be installed, you can simply double click to start it, whenever you’ll right click on any window, it will ask you to set its transparency. It is very easy to use software and it is also having a feature to set any windows on top, according to your choice.

Productivity Tip:- You can use glass2k in way to increase your productivity, as it will prevent you switching between windows, and you can do two works at time, like I keep browsing my computer by making explorer windows transparent and watching through my e-mail account. You can check out the screenshot below-
