BenQ LED-backlit LCD monitors coming soon

BenQ LED-backlit LCD monitors coming soon

BenQ has a new range of LED-backlit LCD monitors on their way, where they include the widescreen V2410T and V2410B, which will oust the V2400 Eco LED Monitor, while the third model would be the E2420HDB. Both of the first two models mentioned will come with 24' display sizes, native 1080p resolution, height-adjustable stands and a 5ms response time, with the only difference between the two being their form factor. Expect the E2420HDB to take a rain check for an LED panel, although it does have native 1080p resolution, 300 lumens of brightness, a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 5ms response time. All three models will sport Senseye image enhancement settings that will change for different applications, while display mode hotkeys lets you play back images with different aspect ratios apart from 16:9. Expect the V2410T to retail for $319, while the V2410B is going for $279 with the E2420HDB costing $195.

Apple Gearing Up For 27-inch Cinema Display And Xenon 5600 Mac Pro

Apple Gearing Up For 27-inch Cinema Display And Xenon 5600 Mac Pro

Apple Gearing Up For 27-inch Cinema Display And Xenon 5600 Mac Pro

Looks like Apple is gearing up to release some rather cool stuff this summer, as word is going around that Apple is ready to introduce its 2560 x 1440 resolution 27-inch LED-backlit Cinema Display, which is a rather nice upgrade from its current 24-inch offering. Apparently the 27-inch model has been developed by Apple for some time now, but the fruity company was waiting for market prices to drop to a more reasonable level before launching the product.

Even juicier should be the news that a new Mac Pro is lined up to feature two Xenon 5600 hexacore chips from Intel. If that’s too powerful for you (yeah, right), you can also go for the single chip Mac Pro which should sport clock speeds of 2.66GHz, 2.8GHz, 2.93GHz or 3.33GHz. There isn’t any mention of a Core i7 processor, but considering the Xenon 5600 being touted, chances are that we might not see the Core i7 being offered.

Benefits of an LCD Monitor

Are there really any benefits from an LCD Monitor? To tell you the truth I never thought about it until a friend of mine came to the house and saw my monitor -and said "You sure have a small monitor. It must kill your eyes, especially if you're on the computer all day." Okay, that really shamed me-I knew I was stuck within the 20th century technology. But would the LCD be any different from my CRT?

To tell you the truth, I never really gave much thought to the monitor. I just knew it got the job done for me. But then I began to wonder- Are there any real benefits to owning an LCD monitor or will my CRT win out. Here is what I found from my research.

Reasons to Buy an LCD Monitor
By Vickie J. Scanlon

Are you still using a CRT monitor, because well, it's paid for and it still works? That was my reasoning. "And besides, I'm happy with it," I told myself as I squinted at the screen and lightly rubbed my sore eyes. "I guess I need a good reason to buy a LCD monitor, especially since my CRT is working just find? So let's find out what the LCD can do for you.

LCD Hype

You've heard all the promotions to the LCD monitor, right. Is it all hype, or is there truth to what is being said. If you are a Johnny Come Lately, with a wait and see attitude, then you will be surprised to know that LCD monitors do offer greater image quality.

For the money conscious, let's first say that many people have abandoned their CRT monitors and moved to the LCD PC monitor, which helps to lower the prices. But it doesn't answer why you should buy a LCD monitor.

Why are People getting LCD Monitors

The first important reason, is of course, it's important to your health. Most CRT's are smaller and harder on the eyes. With the LCD, images are easier to see and text is easier to read. And if you're an entertainment enthusiast or love video games, than the LCD monitor should be your choice. Why?

According to Professor Alan Hedge of Cornell University article - Ergonomics Considerations of LCD versus CRT Displays Dept. Design & Environmental Analysis, - there are many reasons to consider an LCD.

LCD monitor:

1) Is free from flickers, which can reduce headaches and eyestrain, and the geometric image distortions at the screen's edge are eliminated from the LCD.
2) offers uniform screen brightness and reduces glare
3) LCD saves space on your desktop
4) LCD takes less energy to run
5) LCD offers better screen privacy because they can not be viewed from the side angles.
6) LCD offer less heat emissions
7) LCD monitor come in sizes to compliment anyone's viewing pleasure

CRT monitor:

1) Is not free from flickers
2) CRT offers geometric image distortions at the screen's edge
3) CRT is bulky and takes up space
4) Because of the size and the intermittent flickering it can produce far more eye-strain. Of course, this is not good, especially if you have to work on a computer for long periods. Let's just say, you could expect to have bottle caps for glasses, or if you don't wear glasses, anticipate the possibility.
5) CRT takes more money to run
6) Heat emissions are greater

So, in the long run, are you saving money with your old CRT? Probably not, if you include your health. But I believe many people have realized that not only does the LCD quench the "I want the LCD monitor because it's cool", but maybe some are seeing the many benefits it does give you, from initial cost of running the monitor to it's many health benefits.

So if you're not ready to hand over the dough yet, don't worry, prices are coming down steadily. And soon, the CRT will be history and the LCD will become the standard. Though the CRT did it's job, we all must part with the old and soon step into the 21st century. Are you ready? I know I sure am.
