Your Blog - Content and Personality

Your Blog- Content and Personality
By Vickie J. Scanlon

Content is what keeps your blog going. No Duh! But what goes into the content should be considered. Such as personality, frequency, and amount of content. I’ll explain.

Frequency of Content

Frequency of your content has been an up in the air type of debate for me. How many times should you update your blog? Well, through all my reading I’ve seen the following: some say daily, some say minimum of 3 times weekly, and others state a minimum of 1 time a week is mandatory. Okay, which way do you go?

The one post a week is really the true minimum. It will do two very important things: 1) keep people coming back; 2) keep the search engines updating your blog.

But if you choose the one time a week, the post should not be a short blurb. Why? You’re giving your readers little reason to stay around. And I personally would deem the effort as well, a lazy attempt to creating a blog. But again, it doesn’t mean that you should be writing them a book. That too, may cause anxious bloggers to ride the mouse to exit your blog.

Content with Personality

Content does not have to be boring. It can entertain while supplying valuable info to it’s readers at the same time. But what is important on a blog is that it should present your personality, through your own words. That is what draws people to your blog. If you maintain a formal, unapproachable style- it can be boring not only to your readers, but also to you.

That does not mean you cannot have guest writers on occasion. This can add variety and give additional information to your readers, on areas within your niche that you are not as well versed on.

Blog and Content Management

As your website grows, you may find that your articles are beginning to become unmanageable and a time consuming venture when updating your website. A blog can be a great solution to content management of your articles. And what I am finding, a better vehicle to getting your content read and your website noticed.

To conclude, go for quality content and differentiate yourself with your personality and your own views. This will keep your readership interested and coming back for more.

Marketing and Blogging

People thought blogging was or is a fad. And that may be. But this fad does help you in your marketing.

Blogging is content rich, and if you are not aware, anything that is rich in content is, in most cases, devoured by the search engines. That can place your blog in the top 10 of the search engines.

Some people procrastinate, some people have a fear of writing, fear that you will not have the info to keep people interested, or some people think it is time consuming. But if you put it in a different perspective -- it can get you to your target market quickly, and thus, additional income.

Blogging - Benefits and Drawbacks
By Vickie J Scanlon

Blogging has it's pluses and minuses. But in truth, the benefits do out way the drawbacks. You may be one of many people who have put up excuses not to blog -is it procrastination or a number of miscues or beliefs. Let's see.

Blogging Drawbacks -- Preceived or otherwise

For many, the biggest blogging drawback, it the commitment of time. Depending on your blog, you may need to write frequent posts. And to make the posts relevant and content rich takes time.

However, if you have other things going on with your business - you do have to manage your time appropriately to get quality information out to your readers. But -- it is time well spent. You'll soon find how good of a marketing tool a blog can be. Why do I say that? Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines are always looking for quality content. And, a blog is content rich. If you give the readers good material and the search engines what they want, you will see quality, targeted traffic.

For those who don't like to write, this may be the biggest hurdle. But what is nice about a blog is that it is informal. If you supply people with the information that want and need they will come.

Blogging Benefits
Blogging can reap many benefits, if you think outside the box. For example:

1) Adsense Advertising and with additional complimentary advertising allowed by Google you can make money with your blog. Not only are you drawing your target market to your blog with your content, you can have another avenue to making a secondary income.

2) Businesses-quality product information about a product, or it's add-ons can help a customer decide to buy or not to buy a product.

3) Customers or target market contact. This is a great way to introduce yourself to your target market and let them know what you are all about. This communication tool allows you to not only stay in touch with customer, but with prospective customers in a non-abrasive way -- allowing them to take a closer look at your business, service, product or information.

Granted, blogging takes time. But the benefits, I feel, out way the pain you may feel at writing. What benefits, search engine exposure -- in most cases, you'll see your blog at the top of the search engines before your website. Why? Content.

If you choose quality content over quantity content you will see additional benefits for your efforts. Such as: 1) increased creditability and expertise in your area 2) the distribution of your blogs to search engines. 3) increased traffic.

Blog exposure
To get your blog out to the masses, think about setting up your blog with Ping-o-matic. Ping-o-matic will get the exposure you want for your blog by hitting numerous feeds after each update. And, its free.

Blogging can have its problems, as with anything. Such as:

1) People leaving negative comments. But if you look at some of the top affiliate marketers, or even good ecommerce sites, you can see where a negative can be turned into a positive. How? For ecommerce sites, its a great way to tell the person to contact a certain email and they will follow up. Can you see the benefits? If you have a public relations issue, use your blog to state your case.

2) People just using your blog as a vehicle to advertise, without a true comment. That is easily taken care of - through your blog dashboard, set the control for reviewing of comments before allowing it on your blog. This helps to eliminate spammers.

As you can see blogging does have it's pluses and minuses. But what is the key to blogging-writing. Stop the procrastination, the mental excuses of why you shouldn't do it and try it as another avenue in your marketing mix. As you know, you should have more than one avenue in your marketing portfolio. If you don't, you're could be missing out on valuable traffic.

Blogging and Your Niche

The Article below "Successful Blogging" gives you seven different strategies to successful blogging -- with of course, an emphasis toward your niche. Make sure the niche you choose is something that you have strong interest in -- you can't keep your readers interested, if you are not interested in your niche as well. It will show.

Successful Blogging
by Sharon Hurley Hall

What makes some blogs more successful than others? Here are seven strategies that will contribute to every blog's success.

What's Your Niche?

When people start to blog, they often have little idea what they're going to say today and less idea what they'll be talking about in five years' time. That doesn't matter much at the beginning, but if you're going to stick to blogging, you need to find something you enjoy writing about and can stay current on. Something that's a big part of your life will make a good blogging niche. For me, that's writing; for you, it could be something else.

Keep Your Focus

Once you've found your niche, stick to it, most of the time at least. When your readers get used to the content you provide, your readership will dip if you go off-topic for too long. You need to find a way to make your content relevant to your readers. Sometimes all you need to do that is a good title. Choosing a title that relates to the theme of your blog or post will help readers realize what your topic is and how this post relates to it.

Read Or Dead?

If you want people to read your blog, you've got to give them something to read - and you've got to make it regular. For some people, this means posting at least once or several times a day. For others, it means posting a couple of times a week. If you're a WAHM or part-time blogger, you may not have a lot of time to sit down and think of posts, let alone write them. But as long as there's activity on the blog, there'll be people reading it. Stay away too long and people are likely to abandon your blog for one that's got fresh content. Since people have lives that are offline (as well as online) getting a guest blogger is a good way to make sure your blog is updated if you have to be away. And with some blogging platforms like Wordpress, you can submit blog posts by email.

Tell The World

Sitting around waiting for people to find your content can take a long time. Instead, take the content to them with headline animators from Feedburner, email alerts from Feedblitz, RSS feeds from whoever you choose. Submit your blog to directories and try to think of a description that will make people want to visit. This is especially important if your blog is just one of many in a crowded field. What is the unique selling point of your blog? What makes it stand out from the rest? That's what you need to put in the description. Use pinging services like Pingoat to let people know you've updated your content. Also use the social bookmarking services to take your blog posts to a wider audience.

Read All About It

Read other people's blogs, not just on your own blogging plarform, but everywhere. This will let you know what people are thinking and talking about and may give you inspiration for blog posts of your own. This article was inspired by a post on Problogger, for example.

Talk To Others

When you read other blogs, be sure to comment if you've found the post interesting or useful. If you have something to add to the discussion, that's even more useful. The best blogging has a community feel and you have to keep talking to maintain that community. That also means that you should respond to all comments on your blog. If you get a lot of visitors, you don't have to respond individually, but it's nice for people to know their voices have been heard.

Work Those Links

Use blogrolls and bookmarks to keep track of the bloggers you read. You can also link to interesting posts in your own posts and use the trackbacks feature to let those people know about the link. If you're lucky, those people will also link back to you and you'll get new readers for your blog. But that's only one part of the story. The best way to keep getting readers for your posts is to link to them in other posts. After all, you're the person who's most likely to know if one of your blog posts is related to another.

These strategies are a good way of building a blog readership and a sense of community with your readers. Once you've done that, your readers will come to you with questions and comments that will lead to other blog posts - and you'll be sure that someone wants to read them.

Blogging Going Forward

Blogging is an ever evolving medium, some say it is a fad -- others say that it is not and is here to stay. But as of today, blogging is here and it is being utilized in many creative ways. Obviously, it is up to the individual if they want to use it as a personal tool to shoot the breeze or if they want to use to to promote their website or product -- and to make money.

If you are wanting to make money, then obviously, the most important thing is to get a niche that everyone is searching for, but where the competition is not to high. Not an easy thing to accomplish or find. Whatever is your case, personal or business, here is some info to get your blog up and running and in the search engine eyes.

Blogging Going Forward
By Vickie J Scanlon

Blogging is your online diary of events, thoughts or for the business person a reserve of articles and comments directed toward your business. That definition is just the beginning of what blogging is becoming -- it's becoming much more.

Since Google Adsense has allowed Google Ads to occupy a place on your blog -- additional revenue, is at your disposal. "Oh", you say, "is that all?" No way. There are some individuals that do not have a website, but are utilizing their blog or multiple blogs to create an income, even testing the waters before a website goes up, and again, creating a presence on the web. And as for advertising for your blog -- take a look at BlogSnob at http://blogsnob.simpleads.net.

Your Blog, Your Website
For those who have a website, your blog can help you with your SEO process. As your readership increases so will your ranking -- what is dependent on that, of course, is the quality of the content. Content and search engines are extremely compatible as you know -- thus, your search engine ranking can take a big jump.

If you have a website, here are some ways to getting noticed:

1. A remotely maintained blog or one on your own server, place a link on your website. This can help you to increase traffic to your blog.

2. When you make an entry into your blog, try to make reference to something on your website -- this creates an inbound links. In addition, I would use absolute links -- which will enable you to place a couple of keywords in the title.

3. Be keyword aware -- and relevant to your website. This helps your SEO process as well.

Blogging Accessories and Necessities
After you have written your quality content -- get it out to the masses -- have it pinged by Ping-o-Matic (http://pingomatic.com/)-- again, it's free. Pinging gets your blog out to the masses, letting them know that you have updated your blog and it is ready for them to read.

As your readership increases you may feel the urge to create a blog forum -- a tagboard services, which enables your readers to interact, as if in, a forum. If you are on blogger.com they have several free tagboards that you can use -- look under "Third Party Add-ons", or do your own search in Google.

Will there be Misuses with Advertising?
Will there be and misuses with advertising in blogs? Yes. People have different agendas, priorities and scruples.

You will probably see article misuse as well as, reader frustration to advertising if it is overkill. Thus, first and foremost, the blog must give potential readers quality content, and as to advertising -- it must be appropriate without overkill, or your reader will just simply click the blog away.

For example:
1. If you have more advertising then content -- you've lost the premise of a blog.
2. And if you put links to your own products within the body copy of another person's article, this, in my opinion, is changing copy, and saying that the author endorses the product. (article misuse)

Blogging can be a positive addition to your website or even to your first attempt to gaining a presence online. But with everything, there is a right way and a wrong way of presenting your product, service or views on line. Remember, to always keep your reader in the forefront -- by asking yourself -- if I was reading a blog, what would I want to see -- and most importantly, what would annoy me the most.

To conclude, blogging is beginning to grow, and its uses, are only limited by an individual's imagination, and of course, the search engines rules -- and I might say, individual readers tolerances and your ethics.
