We're a little over a third of the way through the season now, and it's getting time to shift gears. Most of the players we targeted to Buy Low early on, have come back to their normal level of play or close to it. Our return on these investments looks to be pretty good. Also, many of the Sell High players we've targeted have either stayed at the level we sold them at or come down a bit. Timing is everything in fantasy sports.
So now we move on to an all important list. The Top 5 guys who are performing outstanding right now, BUT history suggests they'll be on the IR for a handful of games at least, in the near future. Is 'getting injured' something we can predict in basketball, or any sport? Absolutely, it comes down to a players workout routine, supplement regimen, and the structure of their body. It didn't take a genius to know Oden and Ming were doomed from the Get Go. Anyway, on to the list. I have a feeling you guys are all screaming two names right now, so i'll put them first.
1. Baron Davis
I've argued many a time that BD could be a perennial first round fantasy pick, if he could just stay on the court. But that's not the case. BD is now 30 years old, and over the last 9 seasons he's only played in every game for one of them. The other 8? Yeah he missed a MINIMUM of 15 games. BD has been solid this year so far, why not trade him in for someone more sturdy like Joe Johnson?
2. Marcus Camby
Something tells me the Clippers are going to be in a world of trouble come January. Something also tells me we should be gaming for this and targeting Eric Gordon if possible. Anyway, looking over his career, the 35!! year old Camby has NEVER played in a full season. In fact, the top four seasons for him in terms of games played (dating back to 1996) are 79, 72, 70, 63! Camby has been outstanding this year, no doubt. Time to cash him in for a sturdier option like Antawn Jamison.
3. Carlos Boozer
Boozer is phenomenal. Much like Camby and BD, he is a top of the league player when he is actually on the court. But is he ever actually on the court? NO, in fact he's never played a full season, missing at least one game each year, he's already missed time this year, and his top 5 seasons for games played go 81, 81, 75, 74, 51!! Chances are Boozer will spend some time off the court soon, why not make a move to deal him for David Lee?
2. Chris Bosh
I have a feeling this is going to anger some people. Bosh is not only a popular player, but he's such a great fantasy contributor. And he has been for every single game so far his season. However during his career Bosh has missed an average of 9 games per season, and has never gone without missing at least one. Convinced yet? Why not shoot now for that 2-1 offer involving Bosh for LeBron?
1. Zach Z-BO Randolph
SELL SELL SELL, I can't scream any louder! Did you see his last performance?! Now is the time to strike! Point it out, let the other manager know this is Z-Bo's big year to shine! He's gonna break rebounding records! He's the next Bill Russell! People LOVE the hot player, so give them what they want! Over his career (Z is 28 now by the way), Z has missed an average....average mind you.....of TWENTY SIX GAMES PER SEASON. Is that a big enough Red Flag for you? Could you deal him for David Lee, cause if so I'd do it right about now!
Knowing who the injury prone players are, and how to use that information, is a huge advantage in fantasy sports. Targeting one or two in the later rounds of your draft, watching them soar in value through months 1 and 2, dealing them off before any big injury and moving to acquire the Paul Milsap and Eric Gordons of the world who will benefit when injury occurs, is a key step toward dominating your league.

Thief good post!
ReplyDeleteI have Bosh in one of my leagues. Is Bosh+Tony Parker a fair offer for LeBron?
Sup Thief,
ReplyDeleteHere's my lineup
Rondo
Ariza
Brooks
Landry
Aldridge
Bosh
M. Gasol
Bogut
D. Lee
Marion
Duhon
Iverson
And here's my special sauce
Points: 16.05

Any tips to share to improve my team? I'm in a 12team H2H League.
Almost forgot, I did not include Iverson's stats on my SS computation since his injured and I want to get rid of him.
ReplyDeleteI did many buy lows and have created a pretty good team I think for a 13 man roto.

I think my sauce would be a little low from all the buy lows I did. Any moves I should be making? I don't know the correct amount of sauce I need for 13 man rotos so that would be helpful too..
Top FAs are...
T.Chandler, N.Robinson, J.Jack...
It's pretty dry considering its 13 man.
Even the smallest help is thankful!!
TY
Norge, let's do Gasol an AI in a 2-2 deal targeting joakim Noah. You dig?
ReplyDeleteIntro, peerrrrrrrrrfectooooo! Love that move, you be thievin!
Epiph, starting with yo bench, I'd rather see Chandler and Robinson or Jack than Q Rich n Thomas. Especially old man Thomas. As for your team, we need to move mike redd and cash in before he goes down again. Maybe in a 2-1 type deal involving speights? Try targeting GWall or J-Rich or even Joe J.
Hey Thief,
ReplyDeleteMy league is a 12 team h2h 9 cat league and the owners are all pretty in love with their players. For the most part noone will part with their team unless they get a good deal(besides my deal which i liked)
I just calculated my sauce numbers and they are:
PTS: 17.23
AST: 3.09
RBS: 6.35
TREYs: 0.93
STL: 1.07
BLK: 0.88
My Team is:
Iverson
Joe Johnson
Hedo (pending just traded tyrus and courtney lee for him and CJ watson)
Durant
S-jax
Josh Smith
B. Lopez
Marc Gasol
Frye
Thad Young
Morrow
Watson (Via trade still pending)
Jack
Are there any serious moves you would consider making?
What up D, you need a boost in dimes, though not that much. I'd try to work a Durant n Gasol for Wade and ?? Deal. You could also try sending those two for CP3 or DWill too, but Wade fits your sauce needs best. Think u could swing it?
ReplyDeletewhat do you think bout trading boozer and c. frye for amare and okafor....
ReplyDeletei need blocks and he is in need of threes
Hey Thief!
ReplyDeleteSo here's my new team after my trade for Antawn Jamison:
PG: D-Will, Rondo, Mo-Will
SG: D-Wade, B-Roy, Iguodala, Kevin Martin
SF: Jamison, R-Lewis
PF: Boozer, K-Love
C: B-Lopez, Bargnani, Noah
New Sauce #s:
PTS: 16.45
3PT: 1.05
REB: 7.15
AST: 4.22
STL: 1.18
BLK: 0.72
and I got an empty roster spot I've been so these are not including the empty spot and my injured Kevin Martin.
My rebounds and steals battle are still neck-to-neck and I'm hoping Jamison will help there, despite his 15-4 game the other night. I've somehow fallen behind in 3PTM from a good margin from where I had been, so again I'm hoping Jamison and a returning Kevin Martin will help me catch up. I'm probably gonna snag up Lou Williams to fill that last spot soon (yes, it's a really league, many FAs on waivers, even friggin' SELL HIGH Gallo is on there who I've picked up occasionally to keep my 3s up as well as to package in trades)
I was surprised by your Sell High on Boozer article this morning! I can definitely see why, but the Tier 2 guy for a Tier 3 caught my eye.. I should've gone after Pau Gasol with Boozer last time but someone beat me to it. I think I can nab Lee for Boozer straight up, do you think that's a good deal? Their numbers are uncannily similar despite fewer points and slightly fewer boards.. Do you believe Lee will eventually overtake Boozer?
Keep doing what you do with this blog!! Great help as always!
Hey Thief what's up. That guy with Okafor and Kev. Martin responded. He made it clear that he values Martin very high. He also didn't want to trade Okafor without receiving a center because he is weak there. A trade with him probably won't happen. There is another guy who is looking to make a trade in general. He's been all over the chat box. Here is his team.
ReplyDeleteD.Harris
S.Curry
K.Bryant
J.Rich
T.Young
M.Beasley
B.Lopez
B.Udrih

Should I make an offer too him?
Here is my team again.

Clint, as a deal I love it. An although Amare has had his fair share of missed games, he's stillmore reliable than booze. So long as ur not hard up for treys, I def like okafor over frye.
ReplyDeleteDW, on day one of the season, boozer dominates lee, but as we go further in and the risk of boozer getting injured rises, their values come closer together. I would think booze has more trade value than lee (name value) so squeeze a lil mire out of the deal if u can. If not, you could still ink it.
Y4, try monta, AI, n Q Rich for Harris, J-Rich n Beasley. Good luck!
I'm kind of surprised by Bosh. He's been very consistent for me, but if I can get Lebron for him then that would be good. The person with Lebron trade for him earlier this year so it might be hard to grab. Notables on his team are A.Stoudemire, J.Thompson, Ginobli, M.Conley, and N.Robinson. Should I offer something or leave it alone. I could also try for Paul on another team.
ReplyDeletemaybe i'm falling in love with monta too much but you don't think i'd be giving too much? Monta has been a beast. He has been averaging like 40 mins a game though so maybe it is unrealistic to think he will put up like this for the duration of the season. Do you expect his numbers to come down?
ReplyDeletealso I offered Q.Rich in the other trade you suggested. It was Landry and Q Rich for Duhon and Biedrins. Should I cancel that trade and offer this one or keep that one?
ReplyDeleteYo thief! This post worries me ha. 10 team h2h 8 standard cats + TO, 4 bench players my team is:
ReplyDeletepg- deron williams
sg-eric gordon

Obviously i need to try and deal boozer and camby. SJax is very injury prone too. what do i do!
Sorry for all the questions. This is my first fantasy league. It is a keeper league. Should I have a slightly different approach to it or does it make little difference. We keep 5 players and draft again for the rest. Again thanks for everything.
ReplyDeleteCool,
ReplyDeleteThe other cat that has Lee has this roster (small league, I know, heh):
PG: Billups, Rose
SG: Kobe, Terry, Crawford
SF: Melo, Pierce, Turkoglu, Ariza, Jefferson
PF: Amare, Harrington, Z-Bo
C: Lee, Dampier
He's number #1 in PTS, 3PTM, FT%, and at my neck with STL. I'm slowly catching up in FG% and he's the closest to overtaking me in TOs. Is there any 2 for 2 deal I can pull off w/ Boozer and Lee involved? I'd try to go after Duncan or Howard but that guy rejected the Harris trade I was gunning for, so I don't think he's in the trading mood. Wallace was another target I had in mind, but I'm hoping the owner wasn't offended by my Westbrook for Eric Gordon deal earlier that he rejected..
Any idea who I should target? I doubt I'll catch up in BLK so I wanna focus on 3PTM, REB, STL with good %s.
as you know i got a couple deals out already haha, but my friend really wants deron.
ReplyDeletehow would u feel if i did this?

Hey thief do you think Duhon is a sell high?
ReplyDeleteY4, ha! So many questions! Slow down bro! Uhh ok, CP3 yes, montas value is pretty darn near peak here. Don't know if it's goin down but I don't see it goin up for sure. Keep the Q Rich deal goin, it'd be a good one to land. I don't plan for keepers, I plan to win NOW.
ReplyDeleteStodds, what's up bro! I'd start with Camby, he'd be the most urgent. One at a time deal them away, one at a time.
DW, how bout boozer n love for harry n lee?
Ha! LA that'd be a HUGE steal! INK IT BRO!
AL, I'd love to have Duhon sit on my bench as a backup PG for the rest of the year. I can't imagine you pullin in his true value in a deal, ya dig? I'd say if you could land somethin like Okur, Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, Eric Gordon, or some other guy in that general range, do it. Else, I'd hang on.
ReplyDeleteSorry I just want to clarify. When you said keep the q rich deal going you were referring to the one where I give him and landry for Biedrins and Duhon, right? If so should I still offer monta, ai, and a bench player for harris, beasley, and j rich?
ReplyDeleteHmmm, interesting.. I'll think about that one. Kevin Love's been doing great since his return, good %s, a newfound 3PT shot, a good amount of steals, and is keeping me in the REBOUNDS race. Is there reason to worry that he won't keep this up? Is there something happening with Harrington soon?
ReplyDeleteAnother idea I was thinking about was maybe picking up Jason Thompson (I don't know why he's on the waiver wire either..) and doing a Thompson w/ someone else for Lee and saving Boozer for bigger fish like G-Wallace? I doubt it'll happen since the dude with G-Wallace is fighting me for boards, but hey, just tryin' to play the game and thieve, heh..
Or maybe Thompson and Boozer for Lee and Harry?
I also just offered Bosh for CP3 straight up. I figured since Bosh has had better numbers this season he might go for it.
ReplyDeleteDW, Thompson should not be on anyones WW, end of story. Make it work!
ReplyDeleteY4, love the Bosh for CP3 offer.
Yo, Just sold johnny flynn for biedrins on my most dominating squad (with other pg's: nelson, harris, cp3, lou williams, westbrook)
ReplyDeleteperfect deal, no?
Hey Thief,
ReplyDeleteMy weak sauce:

I was tryin to trade Nash for Jameer + VC or Okafor but not getting any luck. I think he has fallen in love with Jameer. Anyways, I'm gonna try dealing Bosh to another manager...thinking about maybe Bosh & CDR for D.Lee & R.Lewis???
Here is his team:
Jarrett Jack

Pavel, AYOOOOOO PERFECTO! INK IT BRO!
ReplyDeleteAR, I like that deal. And hang in there, once B Gord gets healthy, your sauce will improve.
Boy Stodds, your sauce looks good all around except in blocks. Imagine if Camby goes down, you'd def be puntin that cat. Find the owner of Big D Howard. Assuming FT% isn't too big of a deal for you, I'd try dealing him Camby and even Boozer in a 2-2 that brings back D How and a Big Stud Player. Else, try Camby for D How straight, and also look at KG, Duncan and Amare. In a perfect world, you deal Camby and Boozer and get D How and Amare, ya dig?
yeah i feel you thief. everything always makes sense when you say it...if only it made sense to these kids in this league. The team with D Howard is
ReplyDeleteRondo
Roy

Rashard Lewis
Dwight
Jason terry
Johnny Flynn
gallinari
rudy gay
chris anderson
carl landry
see anything good?
Yo thief. I'm the real manager of stodds team. He's my co-manager. We have been actively trying to move Murphy and camby to find blocks. We were looking for a two for one deal so that we could pick up Perkins but now he's gone off the ww. I offered Troy Murphy for Josh smith straight up. Murphy is better in every category except blocks. The owner of Josh smith called me the stupidest person he's ever known for offering that trade and that the league is getting tired of my crappy proposals(hes the commish btw). Nobody understands your methods in my league, therefore they don't my reasons. But I can't tell them about your site. It's me and stodds secret. If I told them, they would understand but I would lose my advantage. So, my question is... Do I keep your expert advice secret, or tell them so that they accept my trades? And is Murphy fair for j. Smith to you? My league is strictly by the names of the players. Stats mean jacksquat to them. I also tried to get al horford and villunueva for Murphy and beasley. Is that good? Save our soul thief!
ReplyDeleteI just got a counter offer. Brandon Jennings and troy Murphy for Charlie villunueva and al horford. I like it only because it solves our blocks problem. I don't like it because I like Jennings. He is supposed to Hit a wall, but he is still scoring in the high teens and getting 6+ apg. I also have Deron Williams, Lou Williams, and Aaron Brooks at pg. Making one of my 4 pg dispensable. You know their numbers? Is this worth it? I would take a hit in 3's. My team is above in Stodds comment. Help me out thief. I still would like to possibly use Murphy in a trade for D. Howard.
ReplyDeleteStodds, Camby and Boozer for Dwight and Roy. Damn if you know this sucka down I'll nominate you Thief of the Month!! INK IT BRO!!
ReplyDeleteChatta, what up playa. I know what you're sayin about keepin it a secret an all. I can't argue with all that, but to be honest I advise all the guys I play with too! LOL they call me daily. It's really not that big of a deal, cause it all comes down to you gettin what you need and them gettin what they need. Murph for Smith ain't insulting at all. Sounds like your league LOVES the Name Brand, HA! Stay away from the Jennings deal, does you zero good. Work that D How line, and send your league to me, we'll EDUCATE them. Then they'll trade, more trading is best!
Thanks. What you said to stodds about the Roy and Dwight trade. The problem is this guy LOVES Roy and Howard. I'm thinking boozer camby and Eric Gordon( or Aaron Brooks) would seal that deal.
ReplyDeletei made two trades and i was wondering if i came out on top.
ReplyDeleteFirst trade: i traded Durant and Frye for CP3
Second trade: i traded Z-BO and J.Thompson for G.Wallace.
Yo Vlado. You don't need the thief to tell you about your trades. I can tell you. You definetly came out on top. Got the leagues top assisters and steals. Got leagues leading rebounder. Those are some good snags vlado
ReplyDeleteVlado, I think it's obvious you did well. If you're just lookin for someone to pat you on the back, well Thief'll give you a pat, good job son.
ReplyDeleteChatta, go with Brooks in that case. you'll get some of the dimes back from Roy. I really think Gordon is gonna have a great January, we can revisit selling him then.
Ok sick... i was also wondering if my team was any good and if i should trade people on it.
ReplyDeletei got
Jennings
Tyreke
Harris
Martell Webster
G. Wallace
Artest Bynum
Przybilla
Juan Barea
CP3
Battier
Jeffries
Taj Gibson
i was kinda second-guessing the second trade cause the next day randolph had his best game of the season
ReplyDeleteYo Thief, I just took over a real project team. 12 teams, H2h most cats, 3 keepers.

We also have a double double category, it will be removed next year though.
My team is extremely unbalanced, I'm 1-8 but 8 teams make the playoffs. Should I just focus on keepers or can I turn this team around? What trades should I make?
Vlado, what's the sauce say bro?
ReplyDeleteMike, try workin Camby and Monta for CP3, see if the kid bites. Then you can swap in Biedrins. NEVER SAY DIE BRO, we can fix this, but we need people willing to deal. Camby is the guy to cash in right now.
i don't know what that means srry lol
ReplyDeleteBefore asking for trade advice, please read the post Secret Sauce. A list of old posts is on the right side of this site, and the sauce post can be found there. In it, you will learn how to give me the right details about your team so that we can properly analyze it, and determine your strengths and weaknesses. ---- LOL, trust me it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteCp3 is absolutely untouchable as is lebron
ReplyDeleteMike, then your only hope is D Wade, can he be bought?
ReplyDeleteIs owner is a Heat fan but said he can be had for a good offer. Should I offer Monta and Camby for him?
ReplyDeleteMike, YUP! Tho, tell him u want Wade, tell him for camby n monta, then tell him to make you an offer, incase he has a brief moment of stupidity and tosses in a second player for ya. I'd love to see you score a solid player, like a duhon or whatever on the back end of the deal. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks man, hopefully it works!
ReplyDeleteBtw thief I unloaded my entire team in my second year keeper and my 3 keepers are now Lebron, CP3, Wade!

Mike, Who's the Thief now?!
ReplyDeleteVlado, awesome. You need a big that drops treys. Think okur, love or bargs. I'd suggest dealing battier and/or one of your rookies to get the big. Prolly reke is best to deal. Battier n reke for bargs would b perfect.
Ok i'll try to do that
ReplyDeletewhoa vlado, big difference, good catch. In this case, it's just a regular ole big that you need. Still deal Reke and Battier, go after Beasley's owner, and get Beasley and a Tier 3 player (read the post Top Tiers for more clarification here).

Thisa, I wouldn't advise u to offer this. I mean it's GREAT value for BD, but you can't afford to lose the assists. I think the other guy would b stupid not to accept, since he's short on dimes too. But my advice is do NOT make that trade. If u wanna deal BD, u need a PG in return.
ReplyDeletecool, thanks.

Hey thief. I got offered to trade Troy Murphy And Lou williams for Brendan Haywood and Charlie villanueva. My team is the one mentioned above in Stodds post. Our weak category is blocks and this trade would solve it. Look back through the posts to find Stodds comment. I see no wrong in this trade. It would give me 3 players at every position to make a balanced team. All 4 of my big men would be double digit rebounds. The one problem is that Murphy is hot. Like really hot. He won't score as much once granger is back, so do you think I can get more for Murphy or is this the best I can get? My league is pretty convinced that white players, no matter their stats, are bad.
