One Game, One Sell High, and One Nice Add

Good morning Thief Nation! I hope last night's games treated your teams well. Chances are, if you had the opportunity to Buy Low on John Salmons, his six steals put a smile on your face. Derrick Rose also continued his campaign for best early Buy Low, posting 24 points and 7 assists. Man I wish I was able to convince his stubborn owner to deal in November! Finally we saw a nice effort from Eric Gordon, who was 3-6 from 3 point territory. All in all not a bad night.

OK on to the post. The first guy up today is our Sell High candidate Andrew Bogut. For those of you missed it, Bogut posted an astounding 31 points and 18 rebounds last night. Lost in the shuffle of that game was a little noticed fact that Michael Redd played 41 minutes, looks like he's feeling better! But as for Bogut, the time to sell is NOW. It's always toughest to shop a guy right after a big game, but the fact is his value will never be as high as it is right now. Remember, don't fall in love with your players, this is our best opportunity to cash in. On to the numbers:

Andrew Bogut - C - Milwaukee Bucks
CAT 2009 Career
PTS 16 12.2
REB 10 8.8
AST 2.2 2.5
STL 0.7 0.7
3's 0.0 0.0
BLK 2.0 1.1
TO 2.0 2.0
FG% 51.3 53.3
FT% 53.7 58.9

For starters, if you're gonna have a guy that shoots this poorly from the charity stripe on your team, make it Dwight Howard. But look at those points and rebounding numbers, way above average. Bogut is a former #1 overall draft pick, so we can't necessarily assume this isn't just a breakout season. However there's two things we do know, first is that his numbers aren't going to get much better than this (I mean, they're pretty awesome right now) and secondly that those numbers are definitely inflated from his last game.

But most importantly, Bogut is very injury prone. In the four seasons prior to this one, Bogut has missed an average of 16.5 games, and only played 36 last year, AND has already missed time this year. My advice? Find some unsuspecting manager to offload this gem to, hopefully in exchange for a Tier Two stud. Try to knock down Gerald Wallace or Joe Johnson or even Paul Pierce (whose value has come back to earth since our initial sell high recommendation). Don't get caught holding the bag when Bogut has to miss more time ahead. Don't fall in love!

In the same game, I noticed something else important, and for those of you following me on Twitter, you likely caught my recommendation to watch Roy Hibbert last night. I was a big fan of Hibbert in Georgetown, I liked his game and he appeared to me to be NBA ready. After a season of little minute and great progress last year, Roy was poised to break out. The only knock on him was - can he stay out of foul trouble? Well, to date this year he's only averaging 3.8 fouls per game, for a guy his size that is success!

But the issue has been Indiana's inconsistent playing time for ole Roy. Some games he's in there for 30 minutes, some for just 10! I felt last night was a key glimpse into how they planned on playing him for the rest of the year. Roy logged 28 minutes, lead the team in scoring, and had only one foul. During his stretch of averaging 30 minutes from Nov. 3rd to the 18th, 7 games, Roy proved he can be the cornerstone of the Indiana Pacers, and a cornerstone of fantasy teams.

It's likely that Roy is on your WW right now. If not, you could try to make a trade for him, but I'll bet most managers are going to hold a tight grip. However if he is available and you have the slot, I'd add here (and indeed I just dropped Jarret Jack for Roy). Two key stats to leave you with, first is that Roy is averaging 2 blocks per game. That's a huge number that is even higher if you just look at the nights he logs over 25 minutes a game. Also, and more importantly, Roy averages almost half a point a minute on the court and .3 boards per minute. So for every 30 minute outing, we can expect a solid line of 15 points, 9 boards and 2 blocks. That's worth a roster spot in my league!

P.S. one little add on tidbit, it appears that Jeff Foster is nursing a back strain. Foster has a history of injury issues himself, and he was the main guy coming in for Hibbert. So we got that going for us too.

  1. Sup Thief!

I offered Bogut for Pierce. Is that good?

    Thanks Thief!

  2. Norg, you're gonna need to get blocks in return on any deals so keep that in mind!!

  3. Hey thief,

its me again. My sauce hasn't changed:
    Pts: 14.875
    3 pt: 0.75
    Board: 7.01

    Blocks: 0.725
I still have the trades floating out there (Horford and J O'Neal for Blatche and Amar'e and Calderon J O'Neal and D. Lee for Nash and Bargs but they are just chillin and not making a decision).
    Two ?s:
    1) Should I drop J O'Neal for Hibbert
    2) I want to do Harrington and Horford for Aldrige and Mayo (is that enough and good for me?)

    -Thanks

  4. 1) is Jerm the best option u have for a drop?

    2) You can get more for those guys. That deal is pretty even, we need better, we need slightly uneven in your favor.

  5. Well heres my team:
Calderon, CP3, Iggy, Marion, D. Lee, redd, harrington, horford, dunleavy (who im trying to drop for ginobli u just hit the ww, but i have very high number so prolly wont get him), Haywood, J O'Neal, biedrins, and Griffin.

The two guys that seem the most active other than the guy in first who wont trade have these teams:

roy, mo williams, milsap, marvin williams gerald wallace, sammy d, vince carter, b diddy, r. brewer (who he just picked up for ginobli, so he needed steals) C. Bosh, mike miller, chris andersen.
*I offered D. Lee for Wallace, so well see if it goes thru

    t. evans, wade, mayo, gay, B. Lopez, Villanueva, Al Jefferson, AI, okafor, jones, aldrige, scola, maggette.

Its ten team H2H, and w. Chandler and sheed are on ww, so I wanna free up some spots and pick em up.

    Thanks thief!

  6. Try lee and redd for Wade. Good luck!

  7. The Harrington-Lee for Boozer-Thompson didn't go over and I even emailed about a straight up Boozer for Lee but the guy refused, saying he's confident he'll win with his roster of all-stars. 'Fallen in love with his players' perhaps? I'll let him be.

I'm trying Boozer for G.Wallace now, and if that doesn't work, I might go after Pau Gasol again.. maybe Boozer-Love for Gasol-Salmons, then grab some guy on waivers to fill in for Love in rebounds and I should have fixed my 3PTM, STEALS, and REBOUNDS problem. Owner was open to that too since Salmons has been a thorn on his side, and he hates the Lakers..

  8. ayo,

i sent the granger and besley for kmart and amare trade

my worry is if you think that granger is injury prone, isnt kmart. plus granger is the guy everyone looks to on the pacers. evans has emerged as a star, so they might not look to kmart as much, plus he is injury prone too. what do you think about all of that?

  9. hey thief,
I tried offering z-bo for d lee but the guy seemed to have fallen in love with lee. anyone else in mind that can be a nice snag?

  10. DW, work fast, salmons is heating up.

Block, try z-Bo for pierce, and KG. Add dunleavy to both offers.

Pavel, u n I keep goin back n forth on granger. What I know is that he has a torn plantar fascia, which is what Carlos Quentin of the ChiSox had. Quentin was out for 70% of the MLB season and was largely ineffective when he returned. Kmart does get injured a lot, I agree, but the injury shouldn't change his game (scored 20 points the night after he broke it).

  11. This guy in my league wont trade Mayo he keeps telling me that he'll break out soon. Do u think he's right?

    ReplyDelete
  12. hey thief, i got bogut and camby, green light on both for kobe?

  13. Vlado, mayo is going to be a great player someday....

Benny, you lose a TON of boards n blocks there, so long as your squad can handle that, then yes INK IT BRO!

  16. He also has David West. Should I look to get him in some type of package?

    ReplyDelete
  17. thief- i spoke to you last night if you remember and you said that my sauce is a little low in treys blocks rebounds and steals. first you told me to package melo with cdr and try to get 2 big men in return or 1 at least. then you said to try to get dirk for melo. which of these should i do? also, the owner of dirk doesnt really want to do this trade so maybe it could be a two man trade?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Al, Drop young n maggette, add salmons n redd.

Y4, yes, do it for the dimes.

Jsr, will he take melo and cdr for dirk?

    ReplyDelete
  19. is that worth it? im not so sure maybe i can squeeze a decent player out of him?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lol, yeah it's worth it. CDR isn't winnin anybody any leagues anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bummer i like Young, so you want me to keep Hughes?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow, with the number of good players on my waiver wire right now, I wish Salmons and Redd were on there like yours, heh!

Still waiting on the Boozer for G.Wallace.. the owner of the Gasol-Salmons responded and said he wasn't sure about Gasol, but he mentioned Jefferson-Salmons as a possibility for Boozer-J.Nelson.. What do you think about Jefferson? He's no Gasol, but is Jefferson an upgrade over Boozer or should I go after someone else or keep Boozer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do you think I should do it straight up or offer a package? Here's his team.

  24. Al, I'm indifferent between young n Hughes, you choose.

DW, love him throwin in big al. This is a very fair trade offer. Fair ain't good enough for us, we be thievin. Either downgrade Nelson or have him add a third player on his end, of salmons rank. You feelin me?!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sure, we like west, ask him what'd it take?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ok...update

guy denied the granger/beasley for kmart/amare and wants granger/aldridge instead

what do you think? Is kmart really gonna come back and avg 25pts/game with a good amount of 3's? And aldridge is solid. So should i not budge and offer 3 players instead of even steven with aldridge.

    what do you think?

p.s. i am hung up on granger since he has been so good for me in the past, and i spent an early draft pick on him, and the rotoworld guys play him up as coming back healthy and dominant, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  27. you think lewis, landry, and iverson is a good offer for mo and west?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Pavel, F roto world. I'll post my thoughts on injuries tomorrow, give you some insight. I'm a big fan of kmart, no issues on him at all.

Al, that's what I'm here for bro.

    Y4, YUP!

  29. THief I might have just made a horrible move. I traded K. Love and B. Davis for G. Wallace. What do you think? If it is as bad as I think, what should I do to help my team, here is my roster:
    D. West
    T. Ariza
    D. Will
    L. Williams
    M. Okur
    O. Casspi
    R. Hibbert
    E. Dampier
    D. Wade
    J. Nelson
    CDR
    A. Miller
    P. Pierce
    J. Green
    M. Speights
    G. Wallace
    H. Turkolugue
12 starters per night and 7 bench players allowed. Categories: FG%, FT%, FT's made, 3 pts, points, O Reb, D Reb, Rebounds, Blocks, Steals, Assists.
Any advice on this one? I have tried to get CP3, but owner will not respond. Who should I target and who should I give up?
This is my first fantasy basketball league. ANy advice would be helpful.
    Thanks

    I need help everywhere.
    What do you suggest?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who should I try to get of the WW since I traded a 2 for 1?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Biglil, you're kind of in a holding pattern right now. I would try to deal cdr and speights for keV Martin, but you don't really have any sell high players. Lou will could also be dealt, offer him n cdr for mike redd. No sweat.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks. I will see what I can get done. Appreciate the advice.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What do you think of A. Daye or JJ Redick as WW pickups?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who should I go after on WW. What should I look for when getting a WW player? Is Pierce not a guy I should be trying to sell high right now?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Did I really make a horrible trade in getting rid of B. Davis and K Love for G. Wallace? Please be honest. I can take it. Who should i have gone for with B. Davis?

    ReplyDelete
  40. You missed the boat on pierce bro, his value is back to earth. Neither of those ww guys are worth an add. Sry

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love that deal for you, love it. You will too when BD goes on the IR.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks, any suggestions for WW? I thought the Pierce boat sailed boat wasn't sure. When should I try to peddle him again? What should his stats look like or should I wait for a couple big games? Who should I try to get for him? Should I try to turn around and trade G. Wallace, or hold on to him?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks, I feel better hearing you say that. I felt like I got ripped and I proposed the deal. At least I made a good move. Yes, I read your report on Davis and I know his injury history, couldn't wait to peddle him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thief, which guy would you get off the WW. D. Derozean, Ryan Anderson from Orlando, Delonte West, JJ Hickson, T. Lawson, Foye, Ilgaskus, McDyess, N. Youmg or take a chance on T. Outlaw for Portland? I mentioned my secret sauce was:
points: 14.19, assists: 3.11, Boards: 5.52, 3's: .87, Steals .97, blocks .72. My roster was mentioned above. Who should I try to get for P. Pierce right now, or should I hold on to him?
    Thanks

  45. What do you think of CDR and L. Williams for E. Gordon or D. Harris? Am I giving to much for them?

    ReplyDelete
  46. HEY THIEF!

Thanks for the hints! I enjoy reading all your posts and finding little tricks that might help. I just wanted your opinion on this trade. Just got Caron Butler and Gerald Wallace for Andrew Bogut and Antawn Jamison. Ideas? Feedback? Good trade? THANKS!

    ReplyDelete
  47. BigLil, Delonte West, and Pierce is now injured for two weeks. Hold tight. Love that CDR n Lou deal for either Gordo or Harry.

Ian, SICK THIEVERY HAUS! Love that deal for you, now enjoy the G Wall and (unless your sauce says you need serious steals) start shopping Butler!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thief, I got a guy in my league that wants D. Will bad. He has Kobe, Haywood, Villenuava, Noah, Camby , Kidd and Gasol. Any of those guys worth trading D. Will for, or should I hold him?
Thanks for the advice. I picked up Delonte West and hopefully will get Gordo or Harry.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Alright big lil, check this out. You do D Will n Dave West for Kidd n Gasol. That'd be key. Knock it down playa!

    ReplyDelete
  50. That just sounds nice. I will handle that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good call on Redd. He is heating up and the owner did want to get rid of him. I am trying to pick him up in a 3 for 1. i am trying to give him L. Williams, A. Miller and CDR for him. Hopefully he will bite. His team is horrible which plays in my favor.
