Lady Thief

I'm going to post on a lighter note today, something I think you'll all find funny and give you some insight into me. I'm 30 years old and I'm married. I'm sure you've gathered information about my professional career through my profile here, but just to reiterate, I spent the better part of 6 years working as an equity (stock) trader before moving on to work as a quantitative analyst. If you don't know what a quant is, we basically use the same type of approach Sabermetricians use in baseball to pick stocks. Lots of formulas, lots of statistics.

Now on to my personal life and my funny story. I married my wife a little over a year ago. She's from the southeast and I knew it was a perfect match from day one. Her father worked (retired this year) as a sportswriter for a good sized newspaper. She's a huge football fan, college basketball fan, and watches ESPN every morning before work and watches PTI religiously after work. Yeah I know, I'm lucky. She's a Colts fan and even owns a signed shoe from Jeff Saturday. Me, being a Pats fan, you can imagine the rivalry between us.

So I'm a lucky guy and my wife likes sports, right, but what's that got to do with this blog? Alright well she plays fantasy football every year and this was the first season she decided to run her own league. She gathered some girls, some guys, some family memebers, and created a solid 14 team H2H league.

Week two of the season, and you know the Thief is working full time trying to make moves and land some solid buy low players. Wifey wants to try too. She see's my offers, follows my game, and starts shipping out her own offers. Next thing I know she lands RONNIE BROWN in a deal where she only gives up that ever vaunted wideout ANTWAN RANDLE EL! "Did I do good?".......uhhhhhh yeah, HA! Sly as a fox she went RIGHT after her most naive friend and pounced right after Randle El's first game (7 catches 98 yards). Remember, we play with no vetoes so long as there is no collusion, deals go through. One more time for ya, Ronnie Brown for Randle El. That goes down in history as one of the best deals I've ever seen. And I assure you, her friend is not completely brain dead.

Moral of the story? Never be afraid to make an offer, you just don't know what the other person is thinking. Yes, insulting offers can do damage, and this is NOT an example of a good offer. But I'd rather see you make an effort than walk away.

Merry Christmas! Hope you all enjoy the new gadgets I've added to the site!

  6. Hey Thief!
Any tips for my team? i'm in a 10 man points based league. This is my team:

    Ellis
    Arenas
    Boozer
    Villaneuva
    Granger
    Ariza
    Jackson
    Ray Allen
    Juwan Howard
    Rip Hamilton

Points: 18.2 (INCLUDING HOWARDS 3.3 PPG!)

    Treys: 1.16
    Steals: 1.28

Keep in mind that Rip,Redd, and Howard have barely seen any playing time this season. Some of the big FA's in my league are Illyasova, Lowry, Dalembert, Larry Hughes, and Anthony Morrow

  8. he will also tell you to trade granger and bench player for someone good. you are also low in assists, so, taking thief's advice i have used granger and few other players to land cp3. you should try that. maybe boozer/granger for cp3/someone good. or deron williams/someone legit, etc. a player like rip is redundant to your team as you dont need points and thats what rip gives. good luck

  9. Hi, I'm in a H2H 10 teams league. My Team:

    MO WILLIAMS
    ANTHONY
    WALLACE
    DAMPIER
    JACKSON
    BROOKS
    NENE
    GASOL
    CALDERON
    DENG
    RICHARDSON
    LEWIS

TYRUS THOMAS is avaliable, should I pick him up and drop DAMPIER?

  10. Sup thief, as you know I redrafted a new team. Another trade passed by yesterday night (Got: Pau, T. Murphy; Gave: Noah, Carter, Okafor, B. Miller) so my squad's officially revamped.

In this 12-team league, I only have 5 players left that I had drafted (LBJ, Mo Will, Calderon, Garnett, Bargnani) on a 14 player roster with 1 IR.

    My team is as follows:
    PGs: Mo Will, Calderon, Iverson
SGs/SFs: Kobe, Barbosa, Iggy, SJax, LBJ
PFs/Cs: Garnett, Bargnani, Murphy, P. Gasol, Perkins, Birdman
    IR: Mike Miller

Secret Sauce for 13 players, not including Barbosa and Mike Miller:

    Pts: 16.09
    Rebs: 6.39
    Asts: 3.62
    Blks: 0.86
    Stls: 1.03
    Treys: 0.9

Overall, it's not bad for a 12-team 13 man Roster lineup. However, I'm still looking to make more 2 for 1 trades maybe a Perkins and Barbosa for a Al Harrington, or something of that caliber so I have space when Mike Miller comes back. Any other targets you think I should aim for?

    Thanks a lot Thief,
    We Fly High

  11. Oh .. mhm my Barbosa for Hibbert trade offer just got accepted. Was that a good choice?

    ReplyDelete
  12. WB, either verlander or VMart depending on team needs.

Pavel, exactly! Everyone loves hot streaks. That's why we do sell highs. Try moving butler now, he's been hot lately. Aim high!

Erik, no lie, move Juwan the 96 year old for Sammy d or Roy hibbert. Then start shopping granger in trades. We don't like his injury.

WB and Pavel, good lookin out. You guys r dead on!

Ismael, I'd be hitting the trade block n trying to move a 2-1 deal, then grab Thomas. Try moving deng and dampier.

FlyHigh, like u gettin hibbert. You have no one hot to deal so sit back a week. Birdman can be dropped for miller. Once some players heat up, we can look to deal.

  13. in the process of acquiring wade or dirk with caron butler for dwight/terry or lewis or smith. i need points he needs boards. my question to everyone is, is wade considered an injury risk? everynight its some team vs the miami wade. do you tink he can play this hard and stay healthy or should i target the german bomber?

  14. yo yo yo

so the lamarcus/granger for kmart/amare trade went through. i havent recalculated my numbers but theyll be similar. i just hope kmart comes back healthy and ready to be droppin points (some peripheral stats would be good too).

also in my other league ive been offering caron. should i do the same for the league that the trade just got accepted?

    My team:
Guards: aaron brooks, brandon jennings ,rajon rondo, kevin martin, lou williams, devin harris, john salmons

Forwards: stephen jackson, ersal elyasova, michael beasley, caron butler

Centers: emeka okafor, ben wallace, tyson chandler, speights, amare stoudamire

  16. Nice post thief. Tho I have zero idea who Ronnie Brown and Randle El are? I don't watch football, lol. Can you give me a comparison like that in the NBA? Was it like Brandon Jennings for Chris Paul? BTW, I wasn't able to land CP3 by giving up Redd and Durant nor the one with Redd for Jameer. Anyway, I'll look for other options. Thanks thief!

  17. Makoy, ha! Lol, more like trading Andres Nocioni for Amare Stoudemire. YUP that bad!!
