Friday Night Update

Friday night is the best time to check stat lines, update yourself on players, and make quick waiver wire snags. You know all your boys are wasted right now, and you're either reading me after getting home from the bars or hopefully before they all wake up Saturday morning. I just put my wife to bed after a long evening of drinking myself and figured I'd brief you on what i see as the important headlines in between games of NBA Live 2010.

1. CP3 is back and the 15 dimes were awesome. I paid up for him in my auction draft, as a player like CP3 goes well with my style. Welcome back playa!

2. Courtney Lee, go get him if he's available. This kid does two things, scores and steals. Huge roto value going forward. Trust me, I was glued to the Magic last year, he has talent.

3. Marc Gasol, if you didn't sell high on this guy well then, you suck. Wait til his next double digit game and ABANDON SHIP!

4. Caron had an inspiring game. 16 points on 36% shooting, he easily could've broken 20. Dorpped in 5 dimes too. This puppy is ready to run, get him NOW.

5. The NJ Nets actually suck more in NBA Live than in real life.....no really.

  1. I like the way you think bro... I also have a strategy of my own that i use to dominate leagues, which i will be glad to share with you, if you are interested... But, right now i'd like to discuss your strategy

You talk about Mean Reversion... buy when a player is slumping (acc to avg stats), sell when he is outperforming his avg numbers... but the key questions to ask (like with stock trading is)

    1. Has the player improved considerably over the last few years? Take Melo for instance, he is shooting a higher percentage from the line, as well as fg's (This could be because of extra practice, better team etc)... That is the reason why his scoring has improved, and there is a possibility, that it might not be an anomaly.. my intuition says that his scoring will drop to prob 27-28 but not 24, although i could be totally wrong... What are your thoughts?

    2. Rookies/Sophomores - players like love, jennings, oden, rose are only going to get better .. Well that is the general intuition... But, is that always a certainty... I think how a player performs is dependent more on the dynamics of his team i.e. how many big players are on the team, how deep is the bench, what does the coach like to do etc.. What are your thoughts?

    3. Do you think having Kobe compared to Melo for the rest of the season is a better choice in a H2H league.. Kobe has many more support players than Melo, therefore his scoring is bound to reduce...

Regardless, iyo, who are buy low, sell high candidates currently?

  2. Great questions! And thanks for the feedback. I'll address questions 1,2 in the next post because they are important points to touch on. As for the Melo v. Kobe in a H2H league, if I'm choosing between the two I'm choosing Kobe 10 out of 10 times. Melo has had a career month, Kobe is just doing what he does. Less risk, same reward.
