Alert! Two Time Sensitive Buy Lows!

Merry Christmas Eve thief nation, hope you're all home enjoying this fine holiday week. Me? Doing what I always do, stayin on top of the Fantasy Sports world to keep you in the loop. I don't rest on this stuff, I love it too much. Doc Rivers doesn't rest on it either, nor Phil Jackson, nor Bill Belicheck, this is what it takes to bring home championships. I texted a guy in my league today, told him I was putting Salmons and Jackson on the block cause I have treys to spare. His reply was 'stop looking at your fantasy squad, it's Christmas Eve!'. Yeah, thanks, go f*ck yaself bro, I'm in it to win it. On to the post!

I sending out a TIME SENSITIVE buy low here on two studs. Remember my post from earlier this week regarding the difference between being hurt and being injured, well we got word today that two top notch stars are definitely hurt. I did some background research into this to make sure they were just hurt, which I'm gonna show you. Hopefully you can go forth and use this information to swindle some manager who thinks they are injured, as opposed to just hurt, and snag each on the cheapy cheap.

Paul Pierce is first up. Pierce started off the season on fire, posting a sick FG% through November and early December. I rang the SELL SELL SELL bell on him as we knew the FG% was coming down, and indeed it did. Well the time to BUY BUY BUY is upon us. Released today was news that Pierce will miss the next two weeks due to an infection in his knee. From the report:

***Pierce was in so much pain from a right knee infection that the all-star forward called team trainer Ed Lacerte on Wednesday around 3 a.m, coach Doc Rivers said. Lacerte went to Pierce's house and took him to the hospital, where they drained fluid from Pierce's knee.

Pierce didn't make the flight to Orlando for the Christmas Day game against the Magic. He is expected to miss at least two weeks.

"What he's going through is pretty significant," Celtics guard Ray Allen said. "It is serious. Because me knowing Paul, he's always practising and he's always playing, so for him not to be here, it must be very significant."***

Sound scary? GOOD, go send it to the owner of Pierce too, scare the ever livin crap out of him. It's an infection, nothing more nothing less. They caught it, they'll treat it, he'll be fine. No breaks, no tears, no strains, just an infection. He'll be out two weeks give or take, and he'll come back being himself again. I'm offering Stephen Jackson and John Salmons for him.

Next up is Brandon Roy. Roy hasn't lived up to par thus far in the season, but par for him is a pretty high friggin bar and his owners aren't necessarily disappointed. Roy has a 20, 5, 5, type of game which is fantasy gold. In his last game he suffered a sprained shoulder and left the game. Sprained shoulder, sounds bad, especially when they list his timetable as 'day to day' and they say 'will run tests'. You know what a sprained shoulder is? It happens when you fall down and your arm is outstretched. You know what they tell you to do to avoid getting one? Don't play sports. QB's get this all the time, it takes about two to three days to heal up and then you're back out there. Nothing big. Again I offered Stephen Jackson and John Salmons for Roy. I figure a sprained shoulder sounds worse, maybe he panics. It's Christmas Eve, he's getting a little tipsy, sees the trade come in through his phone and...........yeah, that's all I want for Christmas, Pierce and Roy on the cheapy cheap.

Go hook it up playa, straight thievin!

  1. Aight so im trying to line up some deals to get depth. Here are two possible trades.

    GET:
    Kobe Bryant
    Paul Pierce (LOW)
    Josh Smith (LOW)

    GIVE:
    Dwayne Wade
    Mike Bibby
    Grant Hill
    Luke Ridnour

    Can it go through?

Another option (this owner is stubborn though)

    GET:
    Steve Nash
    Vince Carter
    Carmelo Anthony
    Hedo Turkoglu

    GIVE:
    Dwayne Wade
    OJ Mayo
    Grant Hill(bench)
    Shaq (bench)
    Luke Ridnour

Is this even? If it, is it a steal?

Both trades improve me sauce, the second options is the best for me though. Let me know what you think. And Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

  9. Just a quick question. Should I be holding on Jennings or selling? I dont have any faith in Redd whatsoever but jennings has been weel below his big start for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yizzie! You're on full tilt haus, slow down. Don't go for the dood's whole team, try one or two max.

Neel, try Landry n Haywood (see how desperate he is), shoot for one or the other, but not both. I'd suggest going for Pierce to start.

Carlo, BOOYAH Now you be thinkin like a THIEF!!

Nilgan, don't make sense to sell now bro. Hold, wait for a big night or two, then I'll sound the alarm. Patience.

WB, really? A baseball draft NOW? Look I don't wanna steer you wrong, I haven't finished modeling my projected stats yet. But I'd probably (off the top of my head) go with Prince. Good Luck, but WAYYYYYY to early to be baseball drafting.

  17. sup again. the trade with JR Smith, Nelson & Jamison for West and Wade. didnt go through. he said he was giving up too much for Wade for JR Smith and Nelson, but West for Jamison was fair. then he tried to counter with Wade & West for Smith, Nelson and Kobe...then he pulled back his offer...

since you got these two players on buy lows what should i do? I added Dampier once Joel P went down...should i have picked up Mike Miller like you said? anyways, here is my team.

  18. Lucky, lol, you could use a scorer. I'll bet you could move love for pierce, try it.

Mark, that's def good value for KD.

Yizzie fo sheezie, much more realistic

Thisa, try JR and Landry for Pierce, again same for Roy.

GENTS! We're trying to take advantage of idiots and STEAL these guys. Love, JR, Landry, these are guys you offer to STEAL with. Work that trading block!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was offered butler and duhon for ray allen and JET. What do you think of this offer?

I'm in 9-cat h2h with TO's replaced by 3pt%, which really changes the dynamics.

I'm really stacked in threes and assists (74 3's up from second place, and about 200 ast above the next best guy).

  20. Hey Thief - Don't have time to put the sauce together right now but how about giving Redd and Crawford to get PP?

  24. Yay, I have a trade accepted at last! I got David West (+ T.Chandler, as filler, at least that was my plan) for Yi J. + J.Green! ^_^

No I'm starting to doubt if I should really drop Chandler to get Griffin or Hibbert right now. I'm tempted by TC's boards and blocks, but his scoring is awfully low and he will hurt me team in the PTS category... If I pick up one of the two young and talented FAs, I'm thinking Hibbert first in order to get some blocks and then drop him for Griffin later... What worries me is that if someone else snatches Griffin in the meantime, I'll regret my greediness for blocks. What do you reckon?

My team (ten team roto league):

    PG - Jason Kidd
    SG - Tyreke Evans

  25. Nilgan, I'd really need to see your teams Sauce numbers to know bro.

    Witwai, perfect!!

Al, I'd try Redd, then maybe Jackson

scola, I can't imagine they stick with Vinny D for the whole season, he plain sucks. I think the whole team gets better when he's gone.

Mamba, I like it, I'd also like to see you add okafor, maybe by dealing young or scola.

Christo!!! Congrats on the deal! I'd grab Griffin for now, and keep tryin to work the 2-1 deals. Nice snag on west!! Some guys to try to move r gallinari, love, curry, Evans, Jennings and smith. Good luck!

  27. LOL, I know, I know, you consider all those guys (or at least 5 of those 6) sell highs...

But, unlike you, I have confidence in Evans and Love - their huge talent is obvious and I think they are also smart kids and will work on their shortcomings and get better there, while still continuing to do well at what they are doing now. You know those two are much smarter than J.R. Smith, despite being much younger than him - he is an imbecile...LOL

Yeah, I know Reke won't get better than 20-5-5 and Kevin won't keep grabbing those 13 boards per game all the time, but those numbers won't drop as much, especially the rebounds - they are all about effort and hustle and don't tell me those two will ever stop running and hustling :P

As for Gallinari, even now his only real value are his treys and I'm sure he will continue to get those, as he will continue to shoot them lots. His playing time isn't going anywhere - in NY they have apparently scratched the current season, waiting for that 2010 FA bonanza, but have big plans for the kid and they are content letting him learn the game on the fly. They know what they are doing... their coaching staff I mean, unlike their GM-s...LOL I can live with his learning curve too ;)

Yeah, wouldn't mind selling Reke and Gallo for say Kevin Durant (in fact I made the offer last week and it's still pending... will probably get timed out :| ), but not for less than that! After all, I wouldn't mind holding on to them either, I'm ready to take the risk :)

As for J.R., Curry and Jennings - you know my opinion of the former, but, as I said earlier, trading him is a future project - I'll grit my teeth and wait for at least a couple more games of multiple treys, before cashing in; I'll also wait for a few more near triple-doubles by Steph, before he hits the wall because of the excessive playing time and THEN try and sell him high; for Jennings you know it's not the time to sell now - will wait for his next hot streak (hopefully) and try to trade him before the next cold one.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mamba, sounds good to me! Merry Christmas to you too.

Christo, lol, you loooooooooove those guys. It's cool I mean they're hot right now. But I'd bet you wish you dealt Jennings after he dropped 55? I'm not saying these guys aren't good, it's just a risk vs. reward thing. I'd take an established guy with a track record like rondo or mo Williams or even baron Davis over the unknown of a rookie. You seem to be playing that Evans will get markedly better from here, so there's your risk/reward. My whole strategy is to remove as much risk as I can. As much uncertainty as is possible. That all said, I'm holding Beasley myself, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Merry Christmas Thief! (It's WeFlyHigh)

So I tried both SJax and AI for Pierce and SJax for AI for Roy, and both offers got shot down by their respective owners. However the Pierce guy then started going for my LBJ with an offer with Pierce/Billups/Terry/Villaneuva, with which I basically said LBJ was nfs in my counter offer of LBJ/Barbosa/Iverson for Pierce/Billups/Gay/West/Jennings.

So he replied with a Pierce, Billups for my newly attained Bryant. I don't like this deal that much either, but I'm thinking of countering with a Bryant for Pierce, Billups, Gay or Bryant for Pierce, Billups, West.

What's your opinion of any of these trades? Would any of them be worth while?

Thanks a lot, and Merry Christmas again Thief!

  30. Hey Thief. First off, Happy Holidays to you and your family and everyone who posts on your site. After reading this post here, I'm thinking about going after Paul Pierce. His owner is dead last in points. Here's my team and sauce:

    Antawn Jamison
    Kevin Martin
    Baron Davis(in trade offer)
    Chris Paul
    Eric Gordon
    Allen Iverson
    Kevin Love
    David West
    Chauncey Billups
    Andrew Bynum
    Caron Butler(in trade offer)
    Anthony Randolph
    Charlie Villanueva

    Sauce:
    Points: 16.66
    Rebounds: 5.94
    Assists: 3.47
    Steals: 1.17
    Treys: 0.96
    Blocks: 0.56

I was thinking about offering Charlie V. and A.I., or I could wait and see how my first trade offer including Butler and Davis goes, and if it doesn't pan out, throw one of them in there for Pierce. I doubt the owner of Roy is going to let him go. What do you think? Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nah, please read more carefully what I've written - I never said Evans would get better, in fact I know he can't and he won't. But I don't think he will get much worse either. FGS, the kid is already the Kings' new franchise player, remember me saying this, cause I'm right :P Kevin Martin's return will only hurt Beno, cause he's the one that will lose the playing time, while Reke will keep his and make the necessary adjustments, cause he's not stupid.

Having watched Kevin Love play, you should be able to see why I think he will keep getting rebounds... And he even has the advantage of his season starting later that everyone else's so he won't get tired - on the contrary, he's still building up on his physical conditioning right now.

Read my previous post once again and you'll see what I mean - I'm not "in love" with anyone and I'm not overly optimistic. I can distinguish between people, so I know which young players I can trust (Tyreke, K.Love) and which stupid egoistic idiots I should not trust (Smith, Jennings). The latter kind of players I'm just trying to use at the right time, use them the best I can and then hopefully get rid of them ;)

You dislike and distrust almost all young players. I like many of them, but not all. I try to use the ones I've figured I can trust... We'll see if I am right in my choices or not.

    ReplyDelete
  32. FlyHigh, nope, no need to give him anything. Take the excerpt of the injury report on pierce, send it n say 'just thought you'd be interested in dealing'.

Bando, too funny, as I read your post I was thinkin Charlie v n AI for pierce. Toss it out, see how it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Christo, I'm following you 110%. I guess what I should say is that I don't trust rookies at all. If I can exchange them for an established player with the same stats, I'll do it every time. I hear you bout K Love, but if I can swap him today for a Bargnani or Murphy, I'm din it. We can agree to disagree. =)

  34. 10 team h2h

dude i get trade offers all day all the time!!!
im sorry for so many questions, but i wanna make sure to make the right trade.

    my noah and rudy gay
    for
    his iggy and jamison

i lose a bunch of blocks and bounds, only reaosn im hesitant. what you think??

PG: Chris Paul, Devin Harris, Jose Calderon
    PG/SG: Lou Williams
    SG: OJ Mayo
    SG/SF: Jason Richardson
SF/PF: Josh Smith, Rudy Gay, Thaddeus Young
PF/C:Brook Lopez, Andrea Barnagni, Joakim Noah, Luis Scola

    any opinions/suggestions on team??

    sauce:
    threes .82
    points 16.18
    bounds 6.02
    dimes 3.58
    steals 1.17
    blocks .77

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes! Now! Ink it now! We'll find you boards b blocks after it goes thru. Nice deal bro!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know what you mean and, don't get me wrong, I'm really grateful to you for what you doing with the blog - you are being very helpful and thanks to you I think I've really improved my team recently. In fact, here is my new sauce with the roster I've listed above here - it truly has skyrocketed!

    Points: 16.53
    Assists: 4.17
    Boards: 6.06
    Treys: 1.22
    Steals: 1.13
    Blocks: 0.65

But, unlike you, I'm just not biased against rookies and sophomores and towards what you call "established" players. I could easily offer my Kevin Love for Troy Murphy right this minute. But take a look at the comparison of those two's stat lines (the pluses are where Love is better, the minuses - where Murphy is):

    FG%: -0.014
    FT%: -0.065
    Points: +0.5
    Assists: +0.2
    Boards: +3.5 (!!)
    Treys: -0.9
    Steals: +0.3
    Blocks: -0.2

Now, if you are confident that at the end of the season Murphy's stats will have risen to what they were last season, while K.Love's will have dropped bellow Murphy's, then I'll happily listen to you and offer the deal :P

But I still feel Love is the better player, even this season he is, let alone in 2-3 years time, when he will DOMINATE people like Murphy!

Anyway, even if I offered it, Murphy's owner would probably snub it - it's the same crazy guy that once had the nerve to tell me he would only consider selling players like Brook Lopez and Eric Gordon if I put LeBron on the table...LOL

Having mentioned Brook Lopez - do you consider him more established than Kevin Love, although they are both sophomores?

BTW, as the Heat-Knicks game is just over, who's stat line of the game do you like more - the one of my Gallinari or your Beasley? ;) :P:P

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nice team there, well done! As you probably have gathered, much of my work trading stocks, and thus my approach to fantasy sports revolves around statistics. So when you ask me whose numbers I trust more, Lopez or Love, I have to say Lopez because (for me), more observations (games played) means more reliable numbers. However there is an age factor on the other side as well. You'll never see me drafting (or suggesting you draft) old players. I pass on guys like Ray Allen or Tim Duncan in drafts and let someone else see if they 'still got it'.

Beasley has been up n down this year, but it's between him n Noah as my keeper. I got them both for under 10$ in my auction. So I'm kinda married to them both.

  38. What a pity my league is not a keeper league :( If it were, with all those great young talents in my team I would be able to get stronger and stronger each year and build a dynasty...LOL

I'm sure Beasley's defense and shooting range will improve immensely, so you are right to be holding on to him. I was just teasing you light-heartedly, not with any bad feelings :)

  39. Ha! No need to apologize bro, I'm from Boston, we've got pretty thick skin here. Yeah the keeper status is VERY nice, but it's strict too. Can only keep one guy, must have drafted him and held him for the whole year, you keep him at the price you paid in this draft (so if I keep beasley, the 4$ I paid this year gets deducted from my $200 draft purse next year and I start with him), and you can only keep a guy for one year.

Thus, my choice is beasley or Noah since they were the cheapest that're doing well. Last year I kept Kevin Martin ($25) which was genius until he went down.

We do our best to keep it very competitive each year, as first place for each sport pays off a grand.
