I know some other websites do this but what about a weekly or bi-weekly waiver wire guys who think will be good pick ups?
ReplyDeleteYeah, those would be players that are owned in very few leagues. And it would be nice if those weekly lists are ranked - so that we can see which of them you like more for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of trade rumours going around, maybe you can spot some buy lows, sell highs if/when trades go through.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, the Cavs want a PF. They're targetting Jamison or Murphy. I read they'll have to part with Z and Hickson. So Varejao's minutes may go down, and Mo Williams may be hitting less 3's and scoring less.
I have both Mo and Varejao... should I try a sell high, or should I ignore these trade rumours?
And well you can do similar analyses for different trades.
We are at the about the mid point of the season right now. So it is possible that you could come up with some formula for ROTO LEAGUES for easy calculation of the impact of a projected trade on the team's standings in specific categories, taking into account not only the secret sauce (projected stats), but also the current standings in those particular categories in that particular league?
ReplyDeleteFor example:
I have Jason Kidd, as well as several other good point guards and, as a result, I have a surplus of assists and I lead my league by a huge margin in the assists category. If I continue to get assists at the current rate (4.04 per player per game), my lead in assists will keep growing, while in other categories I will be fighting for positions and probably losing the fight. Now, obviously something needs to be done - I need to sell some assists, and I don't mean any thieving - I just need to swap something I don't need for things I need.
In my case I have arrived at the idea of maybe sending Jason Kidd for someone like Kevin Martin - essentially trading a lot of assists for a lot of points, without losing to much in the other categories Kidd contributes in - boards, steals, treys... But then the questions is if that "a lot" is actually too much right now - if I am thus giving up too much assists too early and I might even be threatening my lead in that category, which currently looks unassailable.
The factors are:
- how many assists per game Jason Kidd contributes/is expected to contribute to a team (answer: about 9.0)
- how many assists per game Kevin Martin contributes/is expected to contribute to a team (answer: about 2.5)
- how many assists I have accumulated so far (in my case - 1838) and how many games I have played towards the maximum of 820 (in my case - 455, so I have 365 remaining)
- how many assists K.Martin's owner has accumulated so far (1477) and how many games he has played towards the maximum of 820 (419, so he has 401 remaining)
And the main question is:
- taking into account all of that, am I in realistic danger of giving up my lead in assists to THAT particular opponent at the end of the season, if I do the trade at this particular moment?
(The formula should be able to do the same calculation about if I can realistically overtake him in the points category by season's end, etc.)
Now, Thief, I know there are several variables and it wouldn't be easy, but I have faith in you and your skills and I believe you can do this! :)
In my case I gave as an example, I took lots of time and I did a lot of calculations, which I believe show that it's dangerous to the do the Kidd-Martin trade at this point in time and I should wait another few weeks before I offer to sell Kidd. But I would hate it if I have to sweat and lose so much time to do the calculations when I come up with the idea for such a trade again (or even for that same trade, but at a future point in time!). So it would be really great - it would be yet another amazing feat of yours, if you could create an easy formula for us to check such "strictly cat-swap type" trades! You could even implement it somewhere within your Team/Trade Analyzer next week ;)
Thank you very much, Thief :D
thief, this would just make navigating the site easier (not a must do).
ReplyDeleteWould you be able to add tabs, the way yahoo does their fantasy page, so that when you scroll over, Thief Nation Forum, FIND A LEAGUE or FIND A MEMBER FOR YOUR LEAGUE & PLAYER STATUS AND INJURY UPDATES would come up.
how about a player search on comments or items you write about, this will be easier for you so you wont have to repeat things and easier for your users as well to find info on players
