Nigerian Online Advertising Scam
A new scam is hitting the online community. It looks like a new take on the Nigerian Email Scam is being resurrected with a new spin. The scammers are approaching site owners with an offer to buy text or display advertising on their site. This is how the scam goes down.
They will offer to buy text or display advertising on your website or blog. They will send you a (bad) check as payment (unbeknown to you). The check amount, however, will be higher than what was agreed upon. They will then state, "Gee, I'm sorry. I overpaid you. Could you please give me a refund of the overpayment." The site owner, thinking this was a legitimate mistake, pays the over payment to the scammer. The scammer makes the profit and the site owner is out the money.
When you are dealing with someone you do not know, it is wise to do the following:
1. Get background information-where is the business located, is there a contact number, physical address. (Check it out!)
2. Do they have a website or blog
3. How long has the site been on the Internet
4. Wait til the check clears - but since this can take time,
I would request that they pay through paypal and not by check. This alone, may help kill the deal.
The amount they offer is usually a huge amount. What other kind would catch your attention, right? Never throw caution to the wind. Be aware-and if it seems to good to be true-it probably is!

Adsense-New Terms and Conditions
Adsense-New Terms and Conditions
It looks like Adsense is gearing up for future changes to their products and services. Which also include new privacy requirements. How will that affect you as a publisher?
Two ways:
Pricing differences: They stated the new terms and conditions were necessary due to different advertising formats and mediums that is and will be incorporated by Google. One example is Gadget Ads. In addition, as stated by Google: "future products may be priced, paid, or managed differently than current ones."
Privacy Policy: Another important change for publishers is their own Privacy Policy. You, as a publisher, will have to notify your users of the use of cookies and/or web beacons to collect data in the ad serving process. This change relates to advertisers' use of innovative products and features like Gadget Ads and other offerings in the future.

Creating Your Own Post Tagline
by Bonnie Calhoun
Hello blogging friends! I haven't been ignoring you *snort-giggle* I just didn't have anything worthy of a post to report. I'm happy to say that I've found something new that could be of service to to, especially to those with team blogs!
Recently it has been asked frequently how the members of a team blog could get their image and/or signature on their posts! Well until Blogger comes up with a post editor solution, each team member can accomplish it with just a minor adjustment.
Each team member will need to open a "New Post" box. Into that box you are going to enter your name...as a signature. You can see how I accomplished that in the image below. And you are also going to upload an image of yourself. I made the size on this one, 50px X 60px, but that size is up to the individual.
Click on the image to open it larger, and in it's own window so you can read what it says!

Now...to get the text to wrap around the image start typing the post right after the closing image mark. The example in the picture is of this specific post, so you can see how it comes out.
After each team member has done this in his/her own post, they could save a copy of the signature and image in a file on their own computer to reuse on subsequent posts, or they could save a draft copy of their tagline and label the post with their own name so that they know which one to open...or they could just open up their last post, and copy and paste that part into their next post!
Happy blogging!

Search Engines and A User-Friendly Website
Search Engines and A User-Friendly Website
By Vickie J. Scanlon
Does your website have to be user-friendly? Yes, your website should be user-friendly for both the search engines and your visitors. As you know, without the search engines you would not have a business, because you would have little or no traffic hitting your site.
“How do I get a user-friendly site?” you ask. There are different ways in which to make it a little easier for the search engines to index your site, and thus, rewarded with traffic. Let me explain.
HTML and Dynamic Links
It is easier for search engines to index your site when it is in html. But what about dynamic links? This is always good to review and see how far the search engines have come when it comes to dynamic links.
Dynamic links can be a little troublesome for search engines. Google and some of the other search engines can handle simple dynamic links but if the dynamic links becomes long and complicated, Google more times than not will back out of page and go no further. Yahoo, suggests kindly not to even go there. Saying, the best places to use dynamic links are in directories that are not going to be indexed. Click the link for more information on dynamic and static links
Why are search engines reluctant to venture to deep into the complicated dynamic links? Because of possible bad coding, it could put their search engine at risk. Translated, it could crash.
Links-Clear Descriptive Links Important
It is wise to make your links, keyword rich for the search engines, and understandable to your users. If the user or the search engine cannot get a handle of what the web page is about, you can bet that it’s time to move on for the user, and for the search engine-a lower ranking in the search results.
As you can see, search engines will give you the most important element to a website’s possible success–your audience. If you lose the search engines, or they cannot find you, you’ll likely to see less traffic.

March 03, 2008 - "Vitamin hug"

Different Types of Searches Can Be Confusing
Universal Search, Horizontal and Vertical Search-Confused?
By Vickie J. Scanlon
Let the search begin. Are you confused by the different searches. What searches you say? It is-universal search, horizontal search, and vertical search.
Horizontal search – Is when you do a normal search within Google and you will do a search across a wide spectrum of material to get results.
Vertical search – Vertical search is more niche driven. This is more of a narrow search: For example: If you do a search on medicine: the search would only drill down into that area of the search engine.
Though many not know it Google, does have vertical search. Some examples are: Patent Search, Product Search, Images, etc.
Universal Search- Universal search is well, interesting but confusing. But what is Google trying to do? Google universal search is a remake-or upgrade of regular search to a more – well, integrated search across many different niches. – Such as you get the regular search results with, news stories, books relevant to search, videos, images, and related searches that is relevant to your initial search.
What does Google say about the advantages for the webmaster when it comes to universal search. It is to your advantage, because now there will be more results that will be returned by the searchers search-which means more opportunities to reach out to your target market. If you want to see any of your content put into the universal mill you can check out Google’s Webmaster Central Blog for details.
Though, you may think that universal search, vertical search or your standard horizontal search is a little confusing-it all can be relevant to those who use search engine marketing as one of their marketing tools.
